Pepe sending off for Real Madrid!!

Did anyone see this over the weekend??

Shocking stuff - you don't actually get to see him punch another player as well in the video.

Yes the player dived and it was never a penalty but still what a terrible reaction by Pepe - can you imagine if that happened in the premiership!

What a shocking penalty when it all settled down mind u!!

Quote:
Real Madrid defender Pepe faced a lengthy suspension after the referee detailed the Portugal international’s aggression on Tuesday toward two Getafe players and the fourth official in his match report.

With the scores level at 2-2 and three minutes left in the Primera Liga clash at the Bernabeu, Pepe pushed Getafe’s Francisco Casquero and the referee awarded a penalty.

Pepe then kicked Casquero on the ground and a second swipe saw him rake his studs over the midfielder’s back. In the ensuing melee he struck another Getafe player, Juan Albin, in the face.

Re: Pepe sending off for Real Madrid!!

he stamped on him 3 or 4 times when he was down as well. mental but made me laugh, was surprised none of the plyers from the other team hit him back. could you imagine if big dunc or keano were involved in an incident like that, pepe would have been knocked out!!

Colleagues of mine over there reckon he'll miss 10 games through this. 2 of which he already missed against Liverpool!

Re: Pepe sending off for Real Madrid!!

They should kick him out of football for this.
They should kick the diver out of football for cheating.
They should kick the penalty taker out of football for being a tw8t.

Re: Pepe sending off for Real Madrid!!

If someone dived like that in front of me, I'd be tempted to kick him too to give him something to really moan about. Maybe that's the rugby in me...

I'm not excusing him, and he will get the ban he deserves but the diving is a joke that really could be stamped out of football if FIFA wanted to. Diving and referee harrassment are the things I hate about football the most. Still watch it whenever I can though.

Re: Pepe sending off for Real Madrid!!

id be so ashamed of myself to take a tumble like that, maybe thats why im not a professional footballer! lol.

pathetic dive, i hate divers but i guess kicking them, etc isnt going to do anything!

brilliant penalty though... NOT. has anyone ever seen Totti's penalty? was pretty much the same.

Re: Pepe sending off for Real Madrid!!

I'd say pepe definitely pushed him, so was definitely a penalty. The getafe player felt the contact and went down but many other players would too. Shocking behaviour by pepe though and he should be banned for the rest of the season.

Worst penalty I've seen in ages though!

Re: Pepe sending off for Real Madrid!!

There was a slight push, don't think he impeded the player though. One of the major problems with football is that the referees can't spot a foul unless the player draws attention to the infringement by falling over. If somebody has their shirt pulled, they are beeing impeded but unless they fall to the floor the refs usually miss it.

In a sport like basketball where there are lots of technical infringements like this (illegal contacts etc.) there are multiple officials to spot them. In football, they have one guy in the middle and two guys at the edges who are about 30+ yards away from the key action. Half the time it's an impossible task. Maybe an official by each penalty area may clear up some of the infringements in those regions. FIFA and the FA seem to be dead set against joining the 21st century with video technology or instant replays so maybe extra officiating would help. Might give managers less to complain about.

As for the penalty, it was in the style of the famous Panenka penalty from 1976. Several people have done it since, Zidane and Pranjic are two examples. Looks great if you pull it off, but if the keeper doesn't move you end up looking like a grade A tw*t!

3.5 for the dive and a decent 6 for the stamp.

Definitely a dummy out the pram moment.

Re: Pepe sending off for Real Madrid!!

As a Madrid fan all I can say is that I hope this nonsense causes his exit from the club.

He is a very average defender and if he gets banned for the rest of the season it will be too good for him. Shocking behaviour. I appreciate that he would have been frustrated by the guy diving to probably cost Madrid the game, and hence the title, but there is no excuse to lash out like that. I would say we could scour all the Madrid games and see plenty of dives by Pepe himself.

Things like this really just help in the continuing dislike fans have for football and the players. They are ruining the game.
