There was a slight push, don't think he impeded the player though. One of the major problems with football is that the referees can't spot a foul unless the player draws attention to the infringement by falling over. If somebody has their shirt pulled, they are beeing impeded but unless they fall to the floor the refs usually miss it.
In a sport like basketball where there are lots of technical infringements like this (illegal contacts etc.) there are multiple officials to spot them. In football, they have one guy in the middle and two guys at the edges who are about 30+ yards away from the key action. Half the time it's an impossible task. Maybe an official by each penalty area may clear up some of the infringements in those regions. FIFA and the FA seem to be dead set against joining the 21st century with video technology or instant replays so maybe extra officiating would help. Might give managers less to complain about.
As for the penalty, it was in the style of the famous Panenka penalty from 1976. Several people have done it since,
Zidane and
Pranjic are two examples. Looks great if you pull it off, but if the keeper doesn't move you end up looking like a grade A tw*t!
