Premiership unsung heroes

The sort of player that keeps his head down and gets on with the game, plays brilliantly, but because he doesn't get the winning goal, goes unnoticed?

For me it would have to be Luke Young . He is an astounding full-back and has played out of his skin all season out of position at left back and even managed an England call up.

Re: Premiership unsung heroes

I take it is for this season?

If so I would say Stephen Warnock.

In Premier League history I'd have to go for Claude Makelele.

Re: Premiership unsung heroes

Hangeland at Fulham has been a great buy from Hodgson. He managed him before somewhere in Skandi land IIRC and without his presence at the back (and at set pieces) Fulham wouldn't be where they are in the league at present.

There have been a few more unsung heroes this season as some of the big names haven't lived up to their reputation due to injuries/team changes or simply unable to live up to previous years (Ronnie). It has been a great year in the EPL and hopefully it will go to the wire both top and bottom.

Re: Premiership unsung heroes

Gotta agree with Hangeland, been superb all season.

This season:

Dirk Kuyt (So important to the way Liverpool play but too many people don't realise it)
Phil Jagielka (excellent season)
Tim Cahill (when fit. Can't stand him but such an important player for Everton)
Michael Carrick (Makes Utd tick, without him they're a completely different team)
Clint Dempsey (excellent season)
Darren Fletcher (been an important player this season when called upon)
Pepe Reina (his distribution is 2nd to none)
Shay Given (does anyone stop more shots?)

Re: Premiership unsung heroes

Only speaking for my own team, Wilson Palacious has come into Spurs in Jan and since then has added strength to our midfield, allowing Modric a more free role. It's no coincidence that Spurs have picked up points and gotten out of trouble since Wilson signed.

Re: Premiership unsung heroes

I think Fulham have to be the most improved team in the EPL. Hangeland has no doubt been excellent but for me Paintsil has to be the most overlooked. Belhadj for Pompey looks like a great find as well.

I never thought I'd say it, but I think Phil Neville has been instrumental for Everton.

Re: Premiership unsung heroes

For me (from Man Utd) it would be Darren Fletcher and Ji Sung Park - everyone i know goes on about how rubbish they are when in truth they'd walk into the first XI of any club outside the top 4. Both extremely hard working players, Park especially covers more ground in a match than most other players, and Fletcher's passing completion is one of the highest at the club. They might not have the tricks and killer passes of ronaldo or carrick but they make up for it with workrate. The fact that Ferguson will put them in against the top teams in the world without so much as a second thought shows how good they are.

Possibly the worst performance I've ever seen from a top flight player yesterday (I was there), absolutely shocking. I don't know what's happened to him but he's lost it big time.

I work with some Man U fans and most would have binned Fletcher yonks ago but Fergie knows his stuff and offered him a new deal and he's not put a foot wrong all season and in my opinion has more than held his own. Carrick has been brilliant too. I agree about Park, he certainly puts a shift in (common trait with Man U apart from the lazy Bulgarian ) and he can always be called upon to do a job.

Roy Hodgson. Not that long ago Fulham wouldve been favourites to go down at the start of most seasons, now theyre 8th and beating Man Utd! Although signing AJ never looked to be a good move....

If ever a manager deserves an award it's him, but only aslong as they don't revert back to what they were 12 months ago.

Yet nobody ever gives him a mention!! Yes, Moyes and O'neil (along with the usual suspects) are doing a fantastic job on a limited budget - were all made aware of this by messers Dixon, Lineker and the family favour Mark Lawrenson on MOTD every week- but the turnaround at craven cottage is remarkable.

Haha, the AJ signing was great +£2m in Everton's bank! Lol that's what we like to see

I'm a big fan of Taylor's too, could never understand why he couldn't keep his place in the team at Pompey

I think as far as unsung 'Heroes' though, this year I'd have to go for a bias Jagielka, his progression from December 07-Now is superb, he made the CB position his own, has worked his way into the England squad, beaten the demons of missing the penalty kick against Fiorentina and sent the boys to Wembley! (again... ) lol I accept he's not entirely been unsung though...

Now he's not playing in a decent side, he has been found out for being the fairly mediocre player he actually is.
