Premier Fixtures. Who would you pick & why?

I need to choose one team from the below fixtures that will take 3 points this weekend, who would you pick & why? They are all so evenly matched I'm having trouble deciding.

Aston Villa v West Ham
Middlesbrough v Fulham
Portsmouth v Bolton
Stoke v Blackburn
Sunderland v Hull
Tottenham v Newcastle

Statistically Stoke & Pompey are the safest bets but I also fancied Spurs until the Shearer factor kicked in. I'm close to winning quite a wad of cash so need to get this week spot on.

Re: Premier Fixtures. Who would you pick & why?

Personally I'd go for Fulham away; too much class for Boro IMHO and their away win at Man City will give them that confidence to do the business at the Riverside.

Re: Premier Fixtures. Who would you pick & why?

I dunno, Fulham have won just twice away from home all season. Villa haven't won at home for over 2 months (I think).

Spurs is tempting but I have a ticket (as a neutral) in the Newcastle end on Sunday & so I'm not sure I can sit in there & support Spurs!!

Re: Premier Fixtures. Who would you pick & why?

Personally i'd go for Spurs - Newcastle still seem to be slipping and without their home support i can't see them rallying to the occassion. Plus Tottenham will be desperate to push up the table in the run in to get into Europe.

I think that the Spurs, Stoke and Sunderland matches have a draw written all over them....I'll stick with my Fulham prediction - Boro are awful.

It's not like that mate, only £5 gambled in a Premiership Killer game with over 50 entries, I'm down to the last 5 people, the last man standing wins the pot. I won it a couple of seasons ago, £300 for a £5 wager.

Being a Villa fan myself I think we are improving after a dreadful run.

We were so close against Man U, TBH that game felt like a draw rather than a defeat, and the fightback against Everton was brilliant and that felt like a win rather than a draw.

I can see us winning, although you never know with Villa!

Everyone chucks in £5 to a trustworthy administrator (haven't a clue who ours is, he's a friend of a friend of a friend's colleague in Newcastle but he's not legged it with anyone's cash in 3 years so must be OK...)

Everyone then picks a team that they think will win that weekend. You can only pick that team in any 1 game, so if you choose Liverpool in gamesweek 1, you can't ever choose them again until the game ends & a new one starts.

If your team fails to win you're out, simple as. All remaining players then pick a team for gamesweek 2 & so on until there's 1 player left.

There's generally 6-8 weeks in any one game so you get 5-6 games a season (£5 a go each time)

If a season finishes with more than 1 player still in it, the pot is split. If all remaining players go out in any given week - the pot rolls over & everyone puts in another fiver & the game restarts from the beginning with double bubble winnings up for grabs.

It's a good little game, get's difficult when you've used up all your better options. I've used Arsenal, Man U, Liverpool, Chelsea, Man City & Everton so far. We're now on gamesweek 7. 54 players started, only 5 remain. £270 in the pot.

The bloke that runs it asks for everyone's selections by 3pm on the Friday, sends out a spreadsheet later that day & another with the results on Monday each week.

Re: Premier Fixtures. Who would you pick & why?

Just found his official rules:

The cost of entry is £5.00

Each weekend you must select a team to Win their match in the English Premier League. If your chosen team wins you survive to the next weekend, when you must then pick a different team to Win.

You may only select a team once per each competition. For example, if you chose Man Utd for Week 1, you would not then be able to pick them in the subsequent weeks.

If your selection Draws or Loses, you are out of the game.

In the event of midweek fixtures being included you will be notified before the weekend, prior to the midweeks. This will give you time ample time to select your chosen team.

The winner (the last remaining survivor) will win £5 x the number of entrants into the competition.

In the event of nobody surviving a given weekend, the prize fund will rollover. The entry fee will again be charged for the rollover competition, however any new entrants wishing to join will have to pay £5 x number of rollovers.

If any game involving a selection is postponed or abandoned, this will be treated as a win and you will progress to the next week, however I reserve the right to remove a fixture from selection at any time.

A selections list will be issued prior to any fixtures, and all selections must be notified via e-mail by 3.00pm each Friday.

If an entrant fails to nominate a selection, that person will be allocated the first alphabetically available home team that they have yet to choose, e.g. Arsenal, then Aston Villa, etc…

If the season ends and there has not been a winner, the pot will be split between the remaining survivors.

Payment must be received prior to the competition beginning or you are not in. Simple as that.

As a Spurs season ticket holder I wouldnt count on us, the way we played last week felt like the players were already on their end of season break.

Personally I'd go for Pompey...

Re: Premier Fixtures. Who would you pick & why?

Despite what you might think. Spurs have only conceded 4 goals in their last 12 homes games, and 9 all season. We are currently 4th in the form table, Newcastle are 18th.

Spurs have picked up 14 points in their last 6 home games, Newcastle have picked up 2 points in their last 6 away matches.

No brainer really.

Newcastle away win!

It's good when a massive chunk of players go out at the same time, I think about 30 odd people went out by all selecting Man Utd earlier this season when they failed to win at home (against West Ham I think)

I was gonna say Spurs originally but thought it was maybe a toss up between them and Villa, Villa have been playing not bad recently, just been a bit lucky and unlucky in equal measure. Although Ashley Young's a right diving wee so and so trying to get Hibbo sent off
