AVF's Premiership Flop of the year

Since we have a thread on the player of the season, I thought I'd see you think should win Flop of the season.

My nominations would be David Bentley, Berbatov and Emile Heskey.

Bentley and Berbatov for being over-priced and not delivering, and Heskey for doing nothing but upsetting a winning team.

Who else deserves to be nominated?

I'm a Spurs fan and I named Bentley. I really thought he would make a difference to us when we signed him.

It's funny but i don't think Berba has so much been a flop as he was a misplaced signing that's unbalanced the team as a whole.

My vote would be for Bentley. He looks poor now and can barely put in a decent cross.

Agreed on this, I was a big admirer of Berbatov when at Spurs and was excited when Utd signed him.

He has played well but his style suggests to the uninitiated that he`s not working hard etc, probably take a while to convince fans/critics etc!

He hasn`t quite fit into Utd`s style of play as of yet but give it time.

So would you not expect him to come back into the team and make his mark?

The change of manager would not have helped his cause but i for one expected him to get into the Spurs side!

I cannot recall Eduardo coming back after almost a year out from a broken leg being farmed out to a sub-standard Championship side.

Berbatov not stepped up yet proper for Man Utd and Robinho was good at the start of the season, but now hes lost it. Both not worth 30 mil

Re: AVF's Premiership Flop of the year

Dos Santos is only 19 and Spurs took a punt on him for less than £5m. He joined a team that had their worst ever start ever, and was then injured.

At the time he was loaned out, Spurs we still in a relegation fight, and Harry tightened the squad up and loaned out about 5 fringe players because he didn't feel they could cope with a struggle.

Hopefully at Ipswich he will get some confidence, and acclimatise to the English game and come back for a full pre-season better for it (though personally I think he will be sold).

I hope he does come back stronger as i think he has a lot of potential and he could be an outstanding player but like you i think he will be sold.

Re: AVF's Premiership Flop of the year

Bentley's a definate contender but his goal away at Ar*enal saves him from being the worse, for me the winner for the second consecutive season is Mr Darren Bent.

Bronze medal goes to Afonso Alves - "A 12 million pound banjo on a half hearted search for a barn door".

to be honest alot of the united goals and attacks have gone through berbatov. he mite not get the assist but is involved in some stage in most of their goals. he hasn't scored as many or done as well as most people expected but he does do alot of good for the team

Berbatov has been off the pace for utd and I know there are plenty of their supporters who will vote for him but surely it has to be the likes of Alvez, Bent or Bentley?

The same was true of Drogba when he played alongside Shevchenko...that was his only 30+ goals in a season.

I still stand by my choice - he's a very experienced international and all hope was on him to replace Anelka and his goals. He had a good couple of weeks but either side of that has been struggling to hit a cows backside with a banjo.

Re: AVF's Premiership Flop of the year

People need to get real. Berbatov has made the second highest number of assists this season. The only player who has done better is Van Persie. One of the few classier players to beat out one of the classiest.
Man Utd do not play with a strict one man striker up front. Its an interchangeable front-line. Berbatov always drops deep, gets the ball, seeks it out, holds it up and does indeed play the beautiful balls through for others to score. Remember his turn on the byline against Hull?
True he has only scored 8 goals, but its his first season at Man Utd and he's not been ****, so deserves to be given another season to see if he plateaus or strikes hits heights

Robinho whilst has not scored frequently will improve next season with a better team around him. He's been alright, not special but he's not been as bad as anyone here is making out. Remember that only halve that team will be the same

Robbie Keane - a round peg in a square hole. We did not need him. With a manager who plays him, gives him confidence and puts him in the right position he has scored and created goals. A month ago he was involved in all four goals in Spurs' 4-0 win, having scored one himself. When he was leading the line he did decent. Scored against PSV. Scored against Arsenal. How is he meant to build form up if Rafa kept dropping him? And at the end he was in the stands as the man and his dog knew he was gone. You watch last game of the season Robbie Keane tearing up Liverpool

Bentley would get my vote. Not worth 10 million let alone 18. Thought too highly of himself but failed to walk the walk after talking the talk. Could not even handle it at Spurs. No way is he cut out if more was expected of him. Made to look good in that Blackburn team
