Grand National 2009 - who do you fancy ?

As I have asked for the last two years - who do you fancy for the National on Saturday.

Gone for 2 E/W bets on Kilbiggen Blade (22/1) and Brooklyn Brownie (33/1) myself...

Any more ?

Re: Grand National 2009 - who do you fancy ?

Might go for one of these:

1) Comply or Die - currently at 20/1 - 1st horse since Red Rum to retain the National?

2) Hear the Echo - currently at 14/1

3) Butlers Cabin - currently at 9/1 - will probably get my £10 this year.

Butlers Cabin. About time Tony McCoy won the national. Horse (with McCoy) fell last year at Becher's Brook on the second circuit and was running really well at the time.

The National is such a lottery though, really anything can win it.

This year I have put:

- Butlers Cabin to win 9/1

- Parsons Legacy E/W 16/1

- Comply or Die E/W 16/1 (Small bet on as it won me some cash last year)

Re: Grand National 2009 - who do you fancy ?

I think the National really shows how little these so called experts know about the race - or perhaps just how tough the race itself is to predict.

All the 3 and 4 star tips on the Beeb failed to impress. A 100/1 shot that no-one mentioned romped home. And Cerium that the bookies spent all morning laughing at on the Beeb programme finished 5th.

It really is a lottery.

Great day for the bookies with a 100/1 shot winning.

Re: Grand National 2009 - who do you fancy ?

the national is one of the few races where a 100:1 shot is worth a punt and today proves it again, the race is too unpredictable to call

thats why so many have a go each year

But its not really.

This is the longest odds to win in many many years, so by definition betting on a horse priced at 100/1 is not a great bet.

And obviosly not that many people back horses at these odds, hence their odds !! If they were backed more then their price wouldn't be so high.

As RMCF, if you had a cheaky punt on all the long shots over the years you wouldn't be in pocket by much and the time taken to place the bets and attend races has to be considered.

owners must be laughing all the way to the bank though that jockey will never have to work again, if your worth a few hundered K already as an owner/jockey you'd stick a couple of K on your own horse wouldn't ya.

Congrats to those lucky enough to pick the winner. Just a £5 would have netted £500!

I spread my bets on quite a few, none that actually won.

Re: Grand National 2009 - who do you fancy ?

Was watching it at my parents, had a sweepstake running there with my young niece and nephews, they were getting into the spirit and having fun betting 50p, was fun.

I got Black Apalachi in the works sweepstake and was certain he would win it, half way in it look a certainty then he fell! raging!

Re: Grand National 2009 - who do you fancy ?

I had 2 E/W bets £25 in total and State of Play came in for me in 4th. The others were Butler's Cabin, Irish Invader, Hear The Echo & Silver Birch.

Got my £25 back, but no winnings this time. I usually have around 4 or 5 bets and most times I end up being about £50 - £60 up. Didn't really have any time to ponder on it this time though and placed my bets over my mobile whilst on the train.

I disagree entirely it was a '****ING GREAT BET '

and to sparky_123 my main bet was on big fella thanks at 20's but i had to put my st Bernard Monty to sleep a few weeks ago and the name jumped out of the page at us, almost like a sign

So pure luck
