Nike Plus AV Forums Team

Hey,

I'm new to Nike Ipod Plus (Infact, I haven't bought any of it yet, getting it all on wed).

Was just wondering if I created a team, if anyone wanted to join?

Seen a few people talking about running and wanting to get in to shape for the summer, what better way then to do it together as a team

Let us know if people are interested

Re: Nike Plus AV Forums Team

Kool stuff guys

Have just created it, go to teams and search for: AVForums

Otherwise, Post your usernames there and I'll use the add members function

Can't seem to find a way to link you straight to the team page though as the whole site is flash based.

EDIT:

Re: Nike Plus AV Forums Team

dont think you need the special nike trainers, its just something that they plug, ive seen some with normal trainers and the receiver is just tacked on with velcro on the laces, i think as long as its held on it should be ok.

Re: Nike Plus AV Forums Team

As already confirmed you don't need to buy Nike+ shoes although Nike say the sensor is more accurate in their shoes because it is lower to the ground.
I have these, http://http://www.grantwoodtechnology.com/shoepouch/ on my trainers and they work very well, all you need then is a Apple IPOD/NANO/IPHONE/ITOUCH etc and a Nike+ Sensor Kit (around £20) and you are up and running (literally).
You can calibrate the sensor to be more accurate by walking a set distance and then running the distance, I have clocked over 800 miles since I got mine and love it to bits, although I now have a Garmin Forerunner 405 which is a GPS based system.

A spin on the traditional pedometer if you will. More a community/marketing effort. No need for a pair of Nikes', as you can buy pouches and attach to the laces of any trainers

Don't even need a Nike+ iPod kit as they have non-iPod things available, like a watch

But I will be looking to buy a Garmin or Polar watch for summer outdoor running as the Nike distance/pace measurements do not hold up well in comparison tests

Re: Nike Plus AV Forums Team

Just bear in mind to calculate distance you need a footpod and/or gps. The cheapest Garmin is the Forerunner 50 but the footpod (pace/distance) and chest strap (heart rate) are separate. £

Models across Garmin, Suunto and Polar will either be bundles or have built-in GPS with an optional footpod. Chest strap will nearly always be separate except for the top of the range

Re: Nike Plus AV Forums Team

Well tomorrow it starts im thinking i may get an early night tonight and get up around 6am and go for a run less traffic and much more quieter, going to take it easy at first light jog then a run back in small bursts then a jog what do you think.

Also really need to get something to keep my touch from falling out my pocket does everyone just risk a pouch in the pocket or a strap around your arm???

Si

Re: Nike Plus AV Forums Team

Good stuff guys

You don't *have* to buy nike trainers...But it is apparently more accurate then sticking the sensor to you shoe another way.

Ipod touch 1st gen isn't compatible.

2nd gen has the hardware built in So is the best option.

Other supported models with an adapter are:
Apple (United Kingdom) - Nike + iPod

I mean it's not a huge cost for good benefits,

Ipod touch: £150
Nike+ Shoes: say around £50
Sensor: about £10-15

And your sorted for a while.

It gives you motivation, for example I ONLY use my kit when running...not walking, so my pace stays below the 7min mile mark (it's about 6min 50 at the moment with 50miles done).
Can review your progress, set targets, see speed and distance.
Can select say "Burn 800" calories and it will tell you how many you have done whilst running and when you reach your target, it calls out your progress in your ear.

Really worth the money if you want motivation.

Can also download the Nike+ screensaver which is linked to your account, at the minute mine is saying I've gotten lazy and less energy because I haven't ran for 8 days lol, so sorting that out tonight.

Just had my dinner of salmon, chicken and sweetcorn, will walk the dog, do some weights, push ups, gut crunches then go for a 5mile run me thinks

Give us a shout if you have any questions about anything, and let us know how you get on m8.

I found running VERY hard to do at first and to be honest I don't know how I kept it up...Now I just like it, makes me feel good about myself...Can also stand up straight without a gut hanging out...cause lets face it, it's not too attractive lol.

But do let us know how you get on....And if you do get the gear, join our team so we can share progress etc
