Milan Derby BBC3 right now.

I'm watching the game but it's stupid, the picture quality is fine but it's not full screen, I have no idea why our broadcasters don't do full screen foreign games, it happens on Channel 5 for Uefa Cup, it happed on ITV the other night, and now BBC3 tonight, it's stupid.

It depends what's available I believe 4:3 is still pretty much the norm in Italy...although Sky Italia have one 16:9SD sports channel and a couple of HD ones...I assume the feed available for international broadcasters is 4:3 only...

Whilst there has been HD from Italy for the Champions League...I always expected this to be 4:3.

Yeah it's 4:3. Very strange but it's watchable at least. Unlike the barely watchable England game!

Least the PQ is okay ( unlike itv's pitiful efforts earlier )

Shame the commentary is about 2-3 seconds behind the pictures

Not strange just we've been used to 16:9SD transmissions for the best part of a decade whist some nations are skipping that going straight to HD, the USA being the most notable example.

Plus the rights for Serie A have for years seemed to be tricky to negotiate and I doubt the BBC could of got anything but the standard world feed in 4:3. A lot of the world is still 4:3 remember.

PS before any pedants say anything there have been some 16:9SD in the states, early seasons of 24 (I believe) were shown in 'FOX Widescreen, High Resolution Digital TV'

Best game of football I have seen since Osasuna 2-3 Barca

Technical ability, the defending and end to end action made for a great game

Re: Milan Derby BBC3 right now.

Watched it online tonight, and it confirmed to me once again that a lot of the people in the UK have not got a clue about football.

All I ever hear in work, and have been hearing for many years, is that "Italian football is boring". I will admit that it has its share of bad games, like EVERY league, but a lot of the times these involve the lower teams who struggle to attract talented players.

However, most of the 'big' games ie involving the top teams against each other, are very entertaining. I have noticed that Serie A is very fast paced compared to what it used to be like, but I think that a lot of people simply aren't prepared to give it a chance, because of old stereotypes.

I think that it has a better ratio of entertaining 'big' games than the EPL. I know I will be accused of bias, but I am only telling it like I see it.

If Becks stays at Milan next season, then I can see BBC or another UK company screening live games next season again.

A lot of people actually defer to the footballing Gods that are Sky Sports. I have always been of the opinion that the technical ability of Seria A and La Liga is of a much higher quality from top to bottom

Re: Milan Derby BBC3 right now.

To be fair, i gladly watched every Italian game 5 broadcast and last nights match was in no way representative of Italian football as a whole. It's like watching a clash between Utd and Chelsea and surmising the quality of the Prem from that.

Technical ability is good but the only reason that last night was end to end was because of Milan's aging defence and the goals came from defensive errors which is a rarity at the top echelons of Serie A.

Cracking game, but hardly representative of Italian football.

Re: Milan Derby BBC3 right now.

I watch Serie A each week on a Hotbird satellite channel (widescreen btw), and it's normally much superior to the rip-off Premiership. Any team can turn over any of the top teams on their day, especially at home, something which rarely happens to Man U anymore. The skill, control and vision of all players, even the defenders puts the English players to shame.

i agree mate. its the sky sports generation where its cool to be a football fan. they listen to andy gray and the very hairy richard keys and think that every other league is rubbish. trouble is they don't watch any games from the foreign leagues.

the prem is a great league, no doubt about it but the spanish and italian are also excellent!!

for eg. when standard liege played everton at the start of the season, all the new football fans wouldn't have given standard a hope as they play in a poor belgian league. liege were excellent!! their technical ability was head and shoulders above everton who are pushing for a place in the top 4.

it shows up in the international games also. when england played spain last week, there was no mention of how good xavi and iniesta are, but the english midfield just couldn't cope with them!!

Re: Milan Derby BBC3 right now.

I really don't think you can equate the international sides performance with the strength of the league as la Liga has been strong for some time now but the Spanish international team have arguably underperformed over the years even more than England.

How many Italians were in the Inter team btw?

I've watched Italian football since the late Eighties and I'll tell you what that game confirmed to me... Both the Milan sides, particularly AC, are no where near the class they once were....

What difference does it make anyway? There was only one, Davide Santon, but Italy's International success has come from having good technical players and a good group plus a good manager, something that England have only just acquired! Arsenal and Chelsea both have fielded teams without English players. The main difference is that arguably most European players that play in the top leagues have much better technical abilities than English players! Just a fact!

You say "arguably" then follow it up with the addendum "Just a fact!"

You'll also note i was replying to the equation between the Spanish league's strength and the international side's competence. My aside about the Italians on show in the Inter side was in relation to the assumption that a league's strength is in any way connected to their national teams output.

Just a fact.

It was a boring game. Combined with the sound sync issue and the lame 4:3 picture, I switched off.

Shame. Game got more exciting with progression

I should point out that Pippo coming on for Beckham gave Milan more of a threat up front, but then again that goal-hanging ******* always has known where the goal is when he manages to stay onside

His volleyed finish was stunning - if only he'd stayed onside that would have capped a great match.

I did like the quote from SAF mentioned in commentary though - "Pippo Inzaghi was born in an offside position".

Its all relative. What are you going to do? Its not Pro Evo and we have what we have

My compliments to Ronaldinho for showing that he does still have it and making two exceptionally awesome passes that I counted that nobody else saw on. And Pato deserves credit for leading the line on his own valiantly and showing glimpses of the superstar he will surely become

Perhaps because it wasn't from the EPL and on Sky Sports - some people think this is the only football worth watching.

No, I used to watch Italian football on C4 all the time. Just couldn't get into this one.
