Sports Personality of the year

With nine days to go (Sun 14th) untill the bbc Sports Personality of the year.

do you have a favourite sporting moments from 2008?

Mine would be seeing Chris Hoy and Rebecca Adlington winning those gold medals at the olympics.

and a lifetime achievement award must go to Seve Ballesteros, I think the word legend is thrown about to easily today but if anyone deserves to called a legend it is Seve Ballesteros. Get well Soon Seve.

Re: Sports Personality of the year

Favourite moment of the year? The last lap of the Brazilian GP!

It would be fitting to see Lewis win the SPotY as soon as F1 switches back to the BBC.

Re: Sports Personality of the year

Not wishing to moan and whinge etc, but why is this called Sports 'Personality' of the year?

It isn't based on personality in any way shape or form. Surely it should be renamed Sports 'Achiever' of the year or something.

As for sporting moments of the year, definitely the GB gold medals in the Olympics and Lewis Hamilton winning the F1 title.

There are more definitions of "personality" than just a traits, characteristics etc.

a famous, notable, or prominent person; celebrity.

Basically it's Sports Celebrity of the Year.

Re: Sports Personality of the year

Hate him with a passion, but I have money on Lewis Hamilton to win so if he does I'll be happy enough.

Got a sneaking suspicion that Hoy might pip him.

Re: Sports Personality of the year

Personally I'd find it hilarious if he didn't win but it's got to be Lewis Hamilton without a doubt.

Re: Sports Personality of the year

If Andy Murray had won the US Open, he'd be pushing both Hoy and Hamilton close. As it is, I think the high profile nature of F1 will eclipse Hoy's Olympic achievements.

I would like it to be one of the olympic winners but Hamilton is bound to win it.

Re: Sports Personality of the year

Hamilton never got the votes last year which was an easier year to win it ( no olympics ) so I have my doubts about the general public voting for him this year
