Hey - in my ongoing quest for some kind of fitness I'm interested in doing a bit of boxing.
I don't really want to get one that hangs off the roof as I'll be putting this in the garage and I don't think it's too sturdy and may end up collapsing on top of me.
It's just the free standing ones all look to be dam expensive.
Any pointers?

My brother bought something along these lines a few years . He was into muay tai (?) at the time and seemed to serve him well. Ofcourse , thats not the exact model and probably not where he got it from.
Not the best of replies thinking aboout it

I made my own from an army surplus kit bag, lined on the inside with carpet and newspaper. Worked very well.

Slam Man - Can be expensive (depends where you look) but if your going to be doing a lot of training i'm sure you would get your moneys worth.

I have owned a good few slam men and highly recommend them, expect to pay £250/£300 for one.

I live in a flat, i have room for one of these but its not possible to have a proper hanging one,(plasterboard walls,)
i seen one in a shop for £200 but thats alot of money if it doesnt work, so found cheaper on flea bay
basically you fill the base with water or sand,,, Freestanding Punchbag on eBay (end time 30-Sep-09 13:04:37 BST)

Free standing punch bags tend to suck, hit them too hard and they fall over.
Best bet is a Slam Man, but i reckon if you punch / kick that hard enough, it would go as well.
Depends if you hit like a girl or a man i guess

hard hitting is a part of it but would also and mainly be continous fast attacks, but still with medium power , sounds like the slam man isa worth apunt, thanks for the advice
