Golf - The 2008 Open

Thought we better have a thread for the greatest major of them all.

It's wide open this year so should be a great tournament, really can't put a name on the title this time but Miguel Jimenez will be there or there abouts so I've had a cheeky each-way bet on him. Also backed 3 Brits in Graeme McDowell, Ross Fisher & Oliver Wilson

Re: Golf - The 2008 Open

Sergio Garcia and Lee Westwood should be up there too with their current form.

I just hope it's not some unknown American who wins it.

Paddy Power are offering each way bets and paying out on the top 7. Worth a go.

For my outside bet I'm going for Anders Romero.

Re: Golf - The 2008 Open

I'll be heading there on saturday(weather permitting) after the shenanagins of the golf day the night before as if i'm down that way i may as well go.

I'm a bit fed up with spain winning everything but Garcia has a good chance i think also Els usually does well on the links.

You'll have plenty of time to relax after the golf in those bars you'll be visiting with nice comfy sofas & soft lighting...

Lyle's walked. Was heading the leaderboard early on, 11 over after 10 so he walked off.

Stuck at work so only internet for me at the mo, but it sounds pretty nasty up there

Re: Golf - The 2008 Open

There is an explanation in the HD programming forum , basically the kit needed is on a boat to China.
Don't turn this into a thread about lack of HD, look the other thread up for that.

Re: Golf - The 2008 Open

disgusted with Sandy lyle yesterday - that is shocking stuff from a professional sportsman - rich beem also. Should be fined for that sort of poor sportsmanship.

Anyway - norman leading and 65 including 8 birdies (5 straight to finish ) from Villegas!!

Come on Greg!

Does anyone else get irritated by the fact all the commentators (and Sam Torrance was the first and worst culprit) refer to all these "traps"?

Where I come from (North-East Scotland) they are called "BUNKERS".

Or am I being slightly grouchy?

I'm with you, if these were indeed "traps" wouldn't we see Corey Pavin stuck in a few with cheese in his mouth?

Have to agree with that.

Did you notice the commentary team criticising his choice of club and line prior to shot though.

Good old Paddy does it again

The Great white had his last round jitters again...

Agree about the great shot Paddy made on the 17th, very brave under the circumstances and it was probably the shot of the tournament for me.

Greg Norman and Ian Poulter I guess, pretty much knew it was over right there & then...

And the rest of europe as the americans were providing the feed for the european tour. So the only country not to get HD coverage of the British open was Britain

No, I have few recollections of Greg Norman throwing(choking) a last round lead and probably the most famous one I can recollect is the spectacular Masters belly flop...
