Blatter at it again !

Blatter has come out and said that it would be like "modern slavery" if United didn't let Ronaldo leave for Real Madrid Blatter is the footballing equivalent of Robert Mugabwe in my view and should keep his nose out of club football.

Re: Blatter at it again !

i honestly don't know where this guy gets his ideas from. he's basically opening the door for footballers to turn even more into mercenaries, it won't be long before they are moving every season.

i always thought blatter and platini were not one bit hapy that the premiership was so strong and some of the stuff they have come out with recently have me even more convinced that they would be very glad to see one of the other leagues beceom bigger than the premiership

Let Ronaldo play for a differant team every week!

Under Septic Bloaters idea chuck out the contracts and let players decide who they play for on saturdays, ManU one week arsenal the week after and on CL weeks you could have 500 players on the bench.

Bloater does not have a clue!

*must resist urge to post on sports forum* Aaaaaagh!

Agree totally. Sometimes Blatter comes out with something sensible, but his attitude towards the players, with his dream of them having to play no more than five games a season (at full pay for the rest of it of course ), no tackling allowed at all (thus smashing what little dribbling talent there is in left in the game), and players free to come and go as they please (destroying any chance of building a winning team for more than one season), all mean that not only are you right, but you are 100% spot on m8!

Now look what you've done John!

Re: Blatter at it again !

I don't know about you lot but I want a piece of this modern slavery cake for myself.

I want to negogiate a £150'000 a week contract for 5 years. And then be hard doneby when my employer unreasonably refuses to let me walk out on that contract after 6 months for an even better deal elsewhere.

If footballers want to be able to move clubs every year then only negotiate for a 1 year contract, trouble is they want the security of a 5 year contract incase things go wrong, combined with the ability to move on to something bigger and better if everything goes right!

If Ronaldo fell ill with <something> and was unable to play football for the next 4 years do you think he'd ask that Man Utd release him from his 5 year contract, hell no. He'd argue that he's got a contract and they should pay him up if they want to release him from it.

These people need a taste of the real world, and for someone in Blatter's position to declare a 5 year contract worth more than I earn in over 2 years every week as a form of modern slavery is insulting me, and to every football fan in the world I imagine.

Please, sign me up for Sepp's Slavery, I really don't mind!

Re: Blatter at it again !

Once again this man proves he hasn't a clue. UEFA - for the good of the game - MMmmm

The players are currently killing the game with their power, and are becoming more mercenary by the day. I would love to see someone challenge him on this latest stupid quote. Like how Ronaldo was happy to sign the 4 year contract of 120K per week, but then isn't happy when offered £150K per week less than 1 year later.

Football is going the way of the likes of baseball - the implosion is not too far away.

I really think he hates football RMCF, but loves seeing young males in shorts..............

Why? Because moves like this, and his and Platini's war on tackling are destroying football as a spectacle, as a game of skill. If players, as he surely knows, can just leave whenever they feel like it, the chances of a skilful, winning team, based around well drilled teamwork will vanish. You cannot build a team for 'every season' as in some US sports. Football just isn't like that. Blatter seems to labouring under the illusion that it can be.

As for being a slave, as someone says, give me a job in which I kick a ball around for 180 minutes a week max, do training when I feel like it, and get paid £150,000 a week for doing it, and you can chain me up right now!

I struggle to be sympathetic with Utd over this as they have done to others what Real are doing to them numerous times, but I do wonder what a contract is worth if the FIFA president is practically telling them that getting a player to sign a contract, one that he will demand is honoured should he lose form or be long term injured, is wrong and that he should be released from it whenever he chooses.

Re: Blatter at it again !

I am a RM fan as you lot all know, but I have been hoping (against hope?) that Madrid DON'T sign Ronaldo.

I think his arrival would be bad for team spirit. Madrid looked like they were forming a decent young 'team' rather than the bunch of individuals they have had in the past, and I think there was sign and indeed reports that the players all were getting along really well (which is very unusual at the Bernabeu).

I think the arrival of a egotistical maniac like Ronaldo would be a step backwards, despite the fact that it will bring the club vast marketing revenue and money. Football is a TEAM game, and no one man, no matter how good he is meant to be, can win things. It takes the entire squad. I think once again the Euros showed Ronaldo up to be a vastly over-hyped player. He did not make a single 'team of the tournament' picked by the many media outlets. I will agree that he is one of the worlds best players, but I think Madrid could spend £70m and £200k per week far more productively.

And he is already out for 3 months with that ankle op. Who is to say that he will recover from it 100% or not have any long term effects? When a player signs for a club, he has to undergo a medical. How will Ronaldo pass his if Madrid sign him in the summer? Surely any medical team (and indeed President) of a football club has to consider buying a player for £70m who has just gone through an operation and who will be out of action for 3 months as a MAJOR RISK, and one that surely isn't worth £70m?

Perhaps Madrid will use this to try to get him on the cheap from Utd.

Re: Blatter at it again !

Tbh RMCF, looking at some of the figures being bandied about, £70 million for Ronaldo, more than £150,000 a week for Lampard, go or stay, and you realise football is once again heading for a big fall.

This sort of nonsense breaks out cyclically, in the late 60's early 70's, late 70's early 80's we had periods where wages and transfer fees went nuts. The difference is now, is thanks Splatter and the poxy Bosmann ruling the players not only have the 'nap hand' they have the whole deck and it's gone on for much longer than usual. Has that though, been aided by external forces?

Even football, as the crash in fee's in the mid 70's, and the crash in both fee's and wages in the 80's showed, cannot buck international economic trends. The game has managed to resist common sense in no small part due to the economy in the Western world being buoyant for so long. But, we are told, a major recession is looming, and unless football gets a grip on spiralling wages and ludicrous transfer fee's, and starts getting it's house in order, that house may be blown in by the inevitable drop off in gates, and greatly reduced take up of Sky boxes, possibly even a tail off in their subscriptions, though with the modern obsession with the square sludge pump I suspect that even as people are re-possessed the Sky box will be the last thing removed from their property............

Whatever happens, with wage bills as bloated as they are, the last thing clubs can afford right now is an economic meltdown. They aren't exactly in a position to ride it out, as even a small decrease in gates, a decline in sales of 'spin offs' and a decline in Sky's revenue could be catastrophic.

I wait now of course for all the nay sayers.

But then the same people said the same things in the 70's and 80's.
