Now Newcastle for sale again ....

I see that Mike Ashley, so called super fan of Newcastle who would sit with the 'normal' fans during games is willing to sell the club to American investors for the tiny profit of £286million.

I am a great believer in foreign owners being bad for football clubs, and does this example just prove that they have no interest in the clubs themselves, as long as they can make a wad of money out of them?

And how in God's name is Newcastle worth £420million

Well known Ashley isn't a Newcastle fan.

He hasn't put Newcastle up for sale at all, he's told the Americain if they want to buy the club they will have to stump up £420m. He paid £137m plus took on £80m debt, more like a if your stupid enough to cough up £420m for my club then yes i'll sell. Fair play if there stupid enough to pay that.

I know he has money, but is he closer to the Russian or closer to the (Scouse) Americans?

I refer to him deducting the cost of club suits from wages. Yes Premiership footballers earn more money in a week than most over years but it is still Scrooge-like in my eyes considering we are talking about compulsory uniforms.

Re: Now Newcastle for sale again ....

I think in all fairness, the whole story has to be taken with the smallest grain of salt on earth.

Where has this come from? Some dodgy red-top tabloid with no quotes, proof or anything to even hint at a meeting that has apparantly taken place. Sky Sports News, as per usual, hop on the bandwagon and pursue a story from a newspaper, and even more embarressing is that the BBC has also made it their top football story, by basically quoting The Sun.

A, the club is never worth that money, and B, nobody would ever pay it. I believe Ashley would prefer to get it right at this club and make his money that way... it makes no sense to plough the money in like he has done to clear debts if his sole intention was to make a quick buck 12 months down the line. Also unmentioned is the tranformation in PR and the way the club is structured and ran on a daily basis these days - unrecognisable from the days of Fat Freddy.

Its the same old story of the press wanting to run NUFC down.... not as easy these days, as we dont have a Chairman (at all, even) who loves to hear his name on the TV. They love to run us down, but dont have the ammunition anymore, so they just make stories up now, it really is amusing :D
