Re: Wimbledon 2008

The problem I have with Wimbledon is if I start watching I find it very hard to stop! Thats a good 8 hours or so a day! I think tennis is my favourite sport to watch in a way as I find the matches consistently entertaining. I hope Federer wins it although I have a feeling Nadal might do it this year. Bit of a shock result with Safin today; that should do his confidence the world of good as he was really slipping down the rankings.

Re: Wimbledon 2008

Rooting for Nadal. I am sure Roger is the nicest person in the world but I want Rafa to win. Make inferences people

As for Maria,... nice outfit, but she hasn't been the same player post-injury. I think she needs time out to try and get back to where she was. Can't be easy though with her father in the background

Still in shock over Henin's retirement and the women's is still wide open to me

Not really been following it, but did read an article that said that Sharapovas grunting reached a decibel level louder than a motorcycle (it didnt say what cc...) in a recent match.

Wonder if her partner has to put in earplugs when they're getting 'friendly'..

Going down there on Wednesday, tickets for centre court , mens quarters weather permitting
It's a fantastic place, great atmosphere, if you are a sports fan it's one of those places you just have to visit. Take plenty of wedge though because it is mega expensive, they really like their pound of flesh
Cheers,
Oddbodd.

Apparently she only grunts (screams?) when playing a competitive game. I find I can't watch her because of it.

For some reason I've always been under the impression that in order to get tickets you had to be a member of a tennis club. Do you mind me asking how much the tickets were?

Re: Wimbledon 2008

I'm currently sat on court 18 *borrowing* a wireless connection. I have been living on site for the past 2 weeks and will continue to do so until the week after teh tournament. I work for the gardeners/ cut flowers through a relation so work from 6-10 each mornign of the tournament and then the rest of the day is mine to watch whatever tennis I like. I have an all access pass too so can go on any court and stand in the wings. Spend alot of time sat watching the practice courts and Andy Murray is a bit of a legend. I though he was a right prick before meeting him last week but after a littlew chat as he was leaving training, my opinion has changed. Not only has he been training very hard (I watched him have a practice match against Bjorkman, another legend) he is also a very nice person. He signed a few programmes for me for my nethews and nieces and sat with me for a bit while waiting for his coach to sort his bag out.

Compared to Nadal who blanked me when I wished him good luck he is a good sport and I reckon the media has got him wrong. If he wins tomorrow he will give Nadal a hell of a game. Nadal has been a bit shaky and Murray has the only back hand on the tour which is better than nadals and is alot quicker and fitted than the last few years.

I'm hoping for a Federer v Murray final. Optomistic but would be quality.

For the woman, come on Jankovic!

You can just enter the ballot every year. My mother's been doing it for years & gets tickets every year. For 2 years running she's got Ladies Final tickets from the ballot - I won tickets for Ladies Final this year too.

Not bothered about going myself (the wife wants to) but the tickets are nontransferable so a tad dodgy to sell for huge profits..

DJT75 is right.

Also the night before at 8.30pm, you can buy tickets from Ticketmaster for centre court.

Saw he was 2-0 down then went to the gym.

No Wimbledon on the 6 screens in the gym (Speedway instead) but it was on in the changing rooms.

Quick walk home to see the final few games.

Awesome stuff

Did you actually see some of the shots Murray was playing out there tonight ? Gasquet was affected yeah, but not by the crowd, it was by Murray's relentless demolishion job on him. If anything, it was Murray who was affected by the crowd in a good way.
