Closure of club specific threads

Now that we have upgraded to the latest version of forum software we have the facility for "Social Groups" which should be used as General Chat areas for specific types of group.

These lengthy club related threads are ideal for that area as with the best will in the world they aren't of much interest to anyone outside the particular group whilst the content is hardly the sort of thing that will be of archival value.

I have now closed all of the club threads here but please feel free to set up your club lounge in the social grouping area and this forum can remain free for general sports related threads.

Please note that normal forum rules apply as to language and inapropriate comments as the posts are visible to the outside world.

Re: Closure of club specific threads

Am I right in thinking that you can only post in groups which you have been invited to join?

Occasionally I like to go into other team threads for basically one off posts....looks like that's not possible now.

It looks like that is the case ... and that maybe it's set up to keep all the warring members away from each other! ... However, you are always welcome on the Chelsea thread, Dony and you have duly been invited. I'm sure that a Liverpool invite will shortly be winging its way to you as well!

Have set up the Spurs one

Not a bad idea, and sorts out the post counts too I guess

Does the creator of the groups get to delete messages?

Some of the gaming lounges are closed as they don't want auslanders but I can't see the point in having the footie club groups closed as it would get very boring once you'd all agreed with other that your team is the best in the known universe.

I just clicked the join button on your thread as you didn't set it to private so i'm sure he can just join?

Anyway i've sent an invite Dony

In a way i think it's great having this new chat section as we can keep people away that like to cause trouble! it will save a lot of fighting won't it?

Why are the features on there so poor? ... Or rather lack of them! ... It's a trial trying to post, with no "quote" button, in particular! ... Then, everything is back to front, with the latest post appearing at the top of the page... and we can't see who is on... It is definitely not user friendly! ... I feel like I've been naughty and been sent to my room and grounded, and not allowed to play with my toys! ... Bah!

I have to agree with Calvin why can't you just scrap post counts in this forum and let us get on with football chat and a bit of banter?

People can see what we post over in the social groups so i don't see what's so different to being allowed to post in this forum?

You'll all just have to post on the Celtic thread as that still seems to be open

Re: Closure of club specific threads

Gotto agree with CFC1, I think it will become very quiet in those threads... I doubt I'll visit as much, certainly not into the other topics.

Same happened when the 360 forums became so fragmented, I can't be bothered to trawl through all the sub forums to find something interesting...

Im slightly confused as to why there's still some club specific threads still open.

Also, could a mod advise... is it now against the forum rules to open a specific team thread in the sports section ?

Re: Closure of club specific threads

If I'm honest I think that this is a bad idea.

I wholeheartedly agree with the social groups, and think that it is a truly great addition to the forums. But, why close down specific threads because of it? All that will happen is that after a match next season we will have the "Chelsea v Fulham" thread, etc, etc...Surely it is easier to moderate one thread rather than countless other ones.

Agreed that the social group "threads" are not exactly user friendly, and if comments can be seen by all, why change it to a "group" status??

I presume that all of the "Panasonic TX42pX70"/"Onkyo 606"/"Toshiba HDEX1"...etc...owner threads are also being closed and changed to social groups as they too are of little interest apart from to the people that own them.

The social groups were supposed to be a great addition to the AVForums, and I do think that they can be - but, at the expense of marginalising well-established threads???? To me, that does not seem right.

I am not a sports mod but I would presume that such individual threads would be closed, based on the current circumstances

You have to remember that this is AVForum, and having an off-topic "chat area" in any forum and not just this one, is always at the discretion of admin

My opinions are my own, as per sig

You know mate that I do realise that this is the AVForums, I've organised golf days and social meetings for many members on here - and we have chatted about AV matters, as well as other matters.

You have no need to "remind" me that this is predominantly an "AV" forum.
