Nothing about last nights match?

dear me!Well at least Gerard had a decent one as did Rooney and Hargreaves .Becks showed what we are lacking when he finally retires.Barry better than Lamps who looked knackered. Ok USA were rubbish but you can only play whats in front of you and a win is win and, no ,friendlies are never meaningless.Lets take the positives and move on

Re: Nothing about last nights match?

It was an ok game, probably the best England have played for a while, which was ironic given it was at the end of the campaign when players are supposed to be tired.

Defoe getting a starting place and England reverting to the tried and tested 4-4-2 was a surprise for me, and it shows that we do play better playing with two up front.

Rooney worked his socks off and Defoe played well, got into space, created chances, should have scored at least two. Some players again didn't look like they wanted to be there (Lampard), and Bentley was very poor too.

The only disappointment for me is that he didn't give some of the fringe players a chance, only Glen Johnson as a second half substitute and he was worse than awful.

I would have liked to see Ashton, Young, Theo, Huddlestone, Hart get a run out, but maybe they will do on Sunday in the Trinidad game.

I didn't realise they were playing till 5 mins before the game i was lucky enough to have bbc 1 on at the time that notified me off it starting. I missed the first ten mins then watched it till half time then switched off again.

Re: Nothing about last nights match?

One thing that McClueless did establish beyond any doubt is that Barry/Gerrard is a much better balanced partnership than Lampard/Gerrard has ever been. Shame the dozy git then reverted for the Croatia game.

I simply can't comprehend why Lampard/Gerrard started last night unless it was purely a marketing decision to help sell tickets for another pointless exercise. A bit like the 100 caps circus surrounding the most over-rated player ever to pull on the shirt. As soon as I saw Beckham lined up I switched off.

Re: Nothing about last nights match?

Nope, not even remotely interested in watching it. I haven't watched England for a while now. I just couldn't care less about them.

Friendlies against USA and Trinidad? Please. We should be rolling over teams like that in our sleep with the squad we have at our disposal.

I'm glad we're not in Euro 2008 as it may actually get us to buck our ideas up a little bit. It really does tell you something when no-one even creates a new thread about it on these forums....hardly anyone's interested! lol

Re: Nothing about last nights match?

It was abysmal. Truly shocking.

Gerrard was the only good player last night. Why the heck Capello played Lampard and Gerrard together again is beyond me.

And Rooney was rubbish. Gave the ball away or messed up every single time he got the ball.

Well he had one of his better half games. Produced a few crosses which showed there is no one in the UK who cam deliver them quite like him.Did ok!

Re: Nothing about last nights match?

Should be an interesting game on Sunday, rumours are that Barry is going to be named captain for it. That should spell the end of the Gerrard/Lampard partnership.

yes agreed .They played well. Rooney was everywhere.
Given that it was at the end of the season it was a good performance against mediocre opponents.Trinidad and tobago match hopefully will tell us which second string players are worth bringing on

Re: Nothing about last nights match?

I watched it but wasnt really interested and spent most the game just chatting to my mates.

Im sick of seeing the same squad over and over again and the most predictable subs ever!

Why start Defoe with Rooney? Why not Walcott? Why start lamps with Gerrard when its been proven they dont play well together about 10 games ago!

Why insist on starting beckham when IMO bentley is a far better pick?
I know for one thing, im not remotely interested in watching sundays game as its just a bore seeing the same old, same old.

The same game as you, however, unlike most people, I am completely immune to the Rooney hype.

Come on, it's hard to judge such a thing against a half-arsed USA team and an out-of-position Gerrard.

What is it with Rooney anyway? Why is he such a petulant, undisciplined moron? I lost count of the amount of times he abused the ref and should have been shown a yellow last night, then spat his dummy out when taken off.

Problem with these 2 friendly's is that i'm sure their not going to be a testing ground for keeper choice. Robinson could of played last night and kept a clean sheet

Need to find out how 'calamity' copes with real international opposition

The only thing better that Beckham did in comparison to Bentley was whip in a freekick that Terry scored from, other than that he did nothing but hit the wall with freekicks, hit players when attempting a cross or lose possession.

I for one think it's time we started to blood in a replacement like Walcott or Bentley

So he did'nt get the ball into Gerrard from the free kick for the offside goal?

Or block from a wall and gain possession from the USA freekick? etc etc....

selective memory?

Re: Nothing about last nights match?

Offside goal??? You mean the one where the ref blew before he even took the freekick (for not waiting for the whistle) that the Americans hardly bothered to defend against, that one?

It's nothing to do with selective memory, he just didn't do much other than kick the cross that Terry scored from, unless of course you mean giving the ball away, blasting it sky-high and kicking it at USA players. I'd rather England moved on and gave more valuable time to players that actually are the future.

Re: Nothing about last nights match?

So the whistle being blown was so clean cut Gerrard thought he'd make the run just for the fun of it? So where the ball ended up and the the possible outcome has no relevance?

Beckham also made a run and was there on goal for the cross that defoe smacked wide - Gerrard took a free kick that was just hammered into the usa wall. Rooney Gerrard, Lampard Crouch have all nearly got the ball stuck in the arch at wembley
