Re: Real Madrid 2007/08 La Liga Champions

They did win this last week - played Barcelona and Levante since.

Madrid seemed to be in control most of the season and at the other end of the table a surprise as Real Zaragoza were relegated.

I've watched Madrid on TV a fair few times and I agree about Sergio Ramos and post - galacticos its good to see players like Diarra and Snjider getting the plaudits for being 'proper' footballers who get stuck in and do a job rather than a load of fancy dans. Ruud up front doing the business as usual and Raul had a decent season - who knows, his absence from the Spanish Euro 2008 team may give him a new lease of life.

Congrats to Madrid.

Sergio Ramos is great, but he gets sent off so many times.

Well done to Real Madrid though.

Re: Real Madrid 2007/08 La Liga Champions

Obviously I am happy that Madrid won La Liga this season, but for me its a bit of a hollow victory.

The team has been generally average for a lot of the season, and I think any other year a half decent Barca team would have run away with the league. But Barca were shocking this season and the pts difference at the end showed how rubbish they were.

Madrid always play entertaining football, but this season they have been just ok. I think it pointed to the weakest La Liga (at the top) in a long time. Madrid did their best to throw it away but everytime they dropped easy points Barca seemed to match them. In the end I do think the best team in the league won, but I don't think they were that much better to win it by so many points.

I agree completely with the Sergio Ramos comments. Madrid paid huge money for him for a guy who hadn't really proved himself. But it now looks like a bargain as he already looks the finished article at such a young age. I hope that he will remain at Madrid until he retires as I like this style of defender. I know he is rash in tackles and gets sent off a little too much, but he has improved this side of his game this season, and think with proper coaching he will not be so headless at times.

As for the rest of the team, well it had its bright moments and low points. I wasn't overly impressed with big money signings like Higuain and Gago, but they have started to knit into the team and may well prove me wrong. I also think that we need a decent hard man in the middle alongside Guti who is the softest of the soft. We need a new Makelele, and I am not convinced that Diarra is the answer. I would love to see Essien play at Madrid soon !!

Also not convinced by Marcelo at RB. Attacks far too much and is a dodgy defender. Cannavaro could well end up back in Italy in the summer, but they have just signed Garay from Racing who looks like a prospect.

Don't think there is a lot of life left in old Ruud. I think we need a new young striker, and the failure of Ajax to qualify for the CL might see Huntelaar on the move. Robinho has settled well this season, and I hope we hold on to him.

Who would I like to see sign in the summer? Likes of Carvalho and Essien would be perfect. Not too fussed on Drogba - too old and would cost far too much for a moody git. Now that Milan have also blown the CL for next season, we just might be able to sneak in and pinch Kaka. He is the sort of player that is good and young and could make Madrid a major force again as they build a young team. I would definitely prefer him to Ronaldo tbh.

Anyway, I look forward to seeing them play in the Emirates in August, to see who they have bought. And then roll on 08/09 season, to see if we can make it past the last 16 of the CL for the 1st time in 5 years
