Wow!

Not sure it's the right thing in the long term, but certainly a very interesting story. Should be fun...

I can't believe any die hard Toon fan would welcome him coming back. Another rash decision by their useless board.

I can defintely see Newcastle being relegated now. Total free fall!

Spot on John. Cannot see why they've done this? Keegans day at Newcastle is done. He was there in a very different climate to today, and I can see the old adage, 'never go back', being borne out in this appointment.

Let's face it, since Newcastle he's not exactly covered himself with glory has he?

Bizzare!

Re: Keegan returns to Newcastle

all the doom and gloom thats around the place will be lifted now,the place will be electric tonight ive been a toon fan since birth and went to my first game when i was 5,to say die hard fans wouldnt welcome the appointment of king kev is just silly.every real toon fan will be delighted by this and the board has given us what we wanted,we didnt want harry or hughes we wanted king kev or shearer or both,we still might have both and i believe its superb news, its just what we need, someone that loves the place the club and its fans and knows what it means, yes he has been out of football for a while but he was out longer the first time round.

right im off to the match

Exactly Windtalker the feel good factor will be back around the place, The atmosphere should be back at St James in force. We the Newcastel fans love the guy and he will be given time. He will have the fans on side and they will not turn on him unlike many of the other candidates which had been mentioned. I'm walking on air now

I've always had a soft spot for Newcastle since my neighbour played for them in the late 70s, which is why I take an interest in their managerial appointments.

He started at Chesterfield, then moved to Newcastle and then to Oxford, but is not one of the well known players I would imagine. I won't say what position just yet !

Re: Keegan returns to Newcastle

Since probably Bobby Robson, this is the first time we've had a lift like this and it feels good once again, what i can't understand is the bitterness in wanting us to fail and get relegated etc? i honestly never thought of us as a club in the hate vain? It's either down to jealousy of what we could achieve if we get it right or other fans have nothing to shout about and lift them up, so they take out of another club thats having a lift, like us are right now, yeh it could be another false dawn, but there is always hope and it can't always be bad...

can it

Talk about paranoia............. Most neutrals do have a soft spot for Newcastle (in particular the teams KK originally managed) and do feel for the Geordie fans. That's why we are interested. Do I give a toss when Sunderland go through one of their latest managerial changes? Nope. Middlesbrough? Nope. Newcastle are the one team in the NE that does inspire interest and instead of moaning when people do care, it might be better to just enjoy the moment, bask in the thoughts given, and think, 'well it's better than being Citeah'.

Now, if you want real long suffering fans, City's crowd have been through the LOT!

Well, as an almost-neutral I say good luck to KK and Newcastle. Let's see some decent, attacking football there again.

Agreed.

However, well as I wish KK, it's not just a question of tactics. The squad, quite frankly, need a kick up the pants, and I'm not sure Keegan is that kind of guy. He had the same problem at Man City, and, well, look how that ended?

Not trying to be a killjoy, it just might be a bit wiser to be more cautious.

If I were a Newcastle fan that is..............

The atmosphere will be so much so (home & away) for the coming months that they'll get results anyway...It's when that dips sometime next season they might need to worry - but for the short-term it could be genius appointment. We don't actually know the details, it could only be a short contract just to lift spirits & rebuild a tad for all we know..

I know the Newcastle fans I know are over the moon.

I know chuff-all about football and don´t follow the game, but I suggested the other night in the pub that Kev might be the man chosen for the job. Of course, this idea was greeted with derision by the assembled ranks.
