Euro2008: The get football swindle continues

I am thinking of travelling over to the Euro Championships to hopefully take in a game or two, and was emailed the application form for tickets today.

And look at the prices !! I have quoted the sterling rate as of today for those not used to dealing in Euro's.

Opening Game €250 (£190)
Group Stage €110 (£83.50)
Quarter Finals €180 (£137)
Semi Finals €300 (£228)

Final €550 (£418).

What a joke. Might have to reconsider the trip.

Welcome to the world of being a football supporter.
That actually goes.

Can i ask who you emailed over tickets? Was i EUFA? Or 2nd class agency?

As the tickets/ballets started last march if i remember right.

Warning you now Austria and Switzerland aren't the cheapest place in Europe either.

Re: Euro2008: The get football swindle continues

I have travelled to plenty of games all over Europe and I appreciate that football is becoming an increasingly expensive sport to watch.

As an example, I bought a ticket off a tout outside the Nou Camp for the Barca v Real Madrid game that was Luis Figo's return after his 'defection' to Madrid. It cost me £70. Think what that ticket would cost these days.

And I see from your diagram that the ticket prices I was quoted are for the 'best' seats - so the prices aren't as bad as I thought. €45 for group games sounds a whole lot better than €110. At least if I was lucky enough to get tickets they would be good ones.

I also realise that Austria/Switzerland are expensive places, especially for beer, but it looks like if we go it will for only for 1 game now, so probably only 2 nights there. Should be able to manage that.

I'll PM you with details of tickets.

btw, this is my 3000th post - I would have put money on it being a right old rant but hey, I suprise myself at times.

I think the closing date for applications is tomorrow or Friday, so will not hear for a while.

The application is in anyway. Will keep you updated.

What about yourself? Did you apply for tickets yourself, and if so, what games?

Why would i want to go? I'm an England fan, no need for me to be there.

Good luck mate.

Neither of the Ireland's are there either, but that wouldn't stop me if I got a ticket. Good to experience a tournament.

Plus, beer is there ok!

Re: Euro2008: The get football swindle continues

I'm starting to feel glad that England didn't qualify now as I've saved a fortune by the looks of thing Mind you I remember paying £100 for the England France game in Portugal in 2004, I was annoyed at having to pay just over £1 per minute at the time, but these prices are taking the urine.
