Very sad news, Motherwells captain Phil O'Donnell has died after collapsing during todays game against Dundee United, he was only 35.
He also played for Celtic and Sheffield Weds.
Thoughts have to be with the family, his nephew was playing and watched on. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foot...ll/7164150.stm

Blimey, we seem to be getting a couple of these a season now. RIP Phil, and obviously thoughts are with his family.

Good player and a sad loss for Scottish football. His nephew was also playing and had to be taken off after his collapse. RIP.

Shocked and saddened. Phil O'Donnell was a great guy, a true pro.
A great loss to Scottish football. RIP.

I am totally Gobsmaked
I Heard he had a seizure and was taken to hospital but was conscious.
Next thing reports of his death.
My Heart goes out to his family and Motherwell FC.
He was a damn good player and if it were not for unfortunate injuries he could have been very special player indeed!
Phil you will be missed
R.I.P

I am shocked. Being 36 years old and a regular follower of Hearts, it was my privelage to watch this fine footballer from when he first broke through for Motherwell, and went on to play for Celtic. He was an awesome player, and was a gentleman. Never saw much of him at Sheff.Wed, but he came back to Motherwell and was their captain. He was exceptional, and I always remember the cup final he played (and scored in) v Dundee United when his side won 4-3. Exceptional talent.
Tragic news, and my thoughts go to his family, and everyone who knew him.
RIP Phil.

Remember how happy I was when Phil signed for Celtic, he was one of the brightest young talents in Scotland and tipped to go the very top of his profession.
Still cant really believe hes been taken away so soon, what a loss for football but its his family who I really feel for so much.
The man left home to go and play a game of football and never came home
God Bless you Phil and your wife a 4 wee kids.

Just read all 10 pages of tributes on the Motherwell forums, very moving. Really feel for them up there at the club. I think the most poignant message was from one fan who had returned late last night from the club, after going there to pay his respects, and he noticed that Phil's car was still parked outside the ground.
