Do you play Golf?

Just wondered how many of you play Golf.

I've played for the last 10 years, and love it.

If so, where do you play, and what do you play off?

Yep, am a member at Waterton park Golf Club in Wakefield...currently playing off 9 (8.6).

You may be interested in the AVForums Golf Days that are held 2 or 3 times a year (We've had 5 so far, search for "Golf Day" and you'll find the threads) . The next will be March/April 2008 and details will be posted in this section.

What about you?? Where and what handicap?

Martin

Re: Do you play Golf?

I'm just going back to the game after a few years off, and have kinda rediscovered the fun aspect of it.

Not a member anywhere currently, having a look round for somewhere semi-decent to join. Just hitting hundreds of balls at the range to get rid of the rust.

I'm a bit of an equipment junkie, so I've been changing shafts and grips left, right and centre. Almost got a settled bag now, ready for the season

Re: Do you play Golf?

I only play occasionally now, but used to play once a week. Was a member of a club in Dundalk but it was bought over and memberships were cancelled.

When I was playing it was off 16, but since that was over 3yrs ago, my society handicap is now 24.

Since there are quite a few Irish people here (both north and south) we should maybe organise an outing for 2008.

Re: Do you play Golf?

For the last ten years before 2007, I was just a casual golfer. Would normally play one or two weeks every year when on holiday as there was a great 9 hole par 3 public course there. But was not progressing and couldn't play consistently. Used to go to the driving range occasionally but that was a waste of time really as I never played on a proper course.

But this year a few of us at work played every Monday night at our local public course (par 3, 4 and 5) and I have gradually been getting better. My best so far was 46 for one round, the course is par 34.

Also booked a course of lessons with a pro which I have almost finished and my game is much, much improved. I had a massive problem with slicing it, which caused me to aim left and therefore mess the whole game up. Now my Pro has got rid of that and with the help of my new Cobra driver I can hit straight and a good distance for my build (shortarse ) Starting to improve my iron play aswell.

My goal this year is to join a proper golf club and get good enough to have a handicap, even a high one would be OK. Don't currently feel confident enough to play these golf days that are arranged as people are quoting all kinds of low handicaps which would just embaress me when I mess the shot up!

You've got to be kidding! There are a few low handicappers like around 9 or 10 but the majority are in the high 20s and score very few points on the day but perform like legends in the evening .......

Nah, don't worry about it Everybody started somewhere ! Look at it this way, you only mis-hit it because you've not had as much practice as the low guys. That's all

I worked in the golf trade for a bit, and as a result, most of my golfing buddies are scratch or thereabouts, a few are club pros and assistants. I have to take a few shots off them, but it makes it all the sweeter when I win... "You do this for a living and you get beat by me"

Re: Do you play Golf?

Thanks :D

I play at the Oaks, it's near York, and i currently play off 10.

I've been using MacGregor clubs for the past 4 years, and don't have any real complaint about them.

Come on Greg, as Steve says, we just play 27 holes, have a laugh and then enjoy the nightlife. I've met some really top guys (ladies more than welcome)on these days and wouldn't miss them for anything.

Re: Do you play Golf?

I've been playing for years but now I can never find the time to play more than a dozen times each year.
I'm currently playing off around 16 but don't have an official handicap.

Off on a cheap golfing weekend in January, I can't say where it is as it is a good secret (don't want it to be fully booked for next year ). 3 rounds of golf, 2 nights + breakfast + 2 x 3 course evening meals for £110.
