Scotland Manager Post

Listening to the radio a moment ago and it looks like Alex McLeish is on his way to Birmingham..... nothing offical yet but they apparently haveoffered him 3 times what he is getting paid for managing Scotland and the draw of the Premiership looks like its winning him over.

Bad news for us Scots...... we will no be in the same position as England!!! Who do we get to replace him???!!

Yeah, just read on bbc that he has resigned. And Birmingham have a press conference scheduled for Wednesday morning....coincidence?

Never good news to lose a manager that is doing a good job. At least there is a little bit of time to find a replacement before the WC qualifying kicks off.

Any other ex-rangers managers kicking about? (Advocaat turned down Aus to stay at Zenit)

Wasn't Souey interested in the ROI job??? So he is on the hunt for work.

Re: Scotland Manager Post

i havent got a clue who i would like in the position now

the problem is that we have good squad harmony just now and the fear with someone like souness is that given his 'hard' reputation i dont know if he would fall out with too many players which would unsettle the camp.

i think walter smith and mcleish had that hard edge about them but the seem to communicate with players, press and fans alike

he would keep the passion that we have thats for sure

........ as for advocat

Yeah, not sure how Souey would get on. He was poor at Newcastle.

Advocaat is public enemy number 1 in Aus at the moment after changing his mind about managing the national side.

Although rumour has it he's off to Derby.

Feel sorry for the Jocks - McLeish was a great manager for you. He gave a rather coy answer on Sky Sports News yesterday when asked about the 2010 WC. I thought then that he would be on his way soon.

I'd avoid Souness at all costs.

Re: Scotland Manager Post

Craig Levein is the man for me - he was naive at Leicester where he put in place a 3 year plan believing the board that he would be given 3 years.

He was great at hearts and doing an amazing job at Dundee United motivating a small squad of players on a low budget and playing against better equipped, richer teams week in , week out - sounds perfect for Scotland really !!

yeah levein would be a good choice but knowing the sfa... will they go for someone who is in a contract or will they keep the purse strings tied and go for an out of work candidate?

well according to reports its looks like the FA are down to Souness and Davies for the managerial post!

If it is down to them then it would be souness for me.

I will be suprised if Souness gets the jobs to be honest after all the "bother" he had with the SFA when he was the Gers manager.

hmmmm....not sure that in itself is necessarily a bad thing. I think it would come down to the actual person more than anything. I know everyone is on a bit of a "the manager needs to be from that country to understand" trip at the moment, but it can work.

Guus Hiddink got Aus to teh WC finals for the first time in 30 years.

Paul Lambert and George Burley in for the post now.

Lambert in my opinion isnt an option- he is far too inexperienced and he hasnt done too well in the managerial posts he has had so far!

Now George Burley would be a good man to take up the post

i would hope Paul Lamber is a non starter. As you say, too inexperiened and not done enough in current roles.

I think George is quite an interesting option. Did a great job at Hearts. Definately worth considering.
