AVForums Golf Day V: Edinburgh, Friday 11th April

Well the dust has just settled on golf day 4 and a half. We did not count the last golf day as a proper one due to the short timescales involved and the fact that only 5 of us turned out - thanks everyone for attending. So far we have had golf days at the following places :
  • Golf Day 1 : Chapel-en-le-Frith Golf Club, Derbyshire;
  • Golf Day 2 : The Craythorne, Burton-on-Trent;
  • Golf Day 3 : Whitefield Golf Club, Manchester;
  • Golf Day 4 : The Bridlington Links, Yorkshire;
  • Golf Day 4 1/2 : Denton Golf Club, Manchester;

So, we are now looking for a splendid turnout on Golf Day 5. I would suggest that we hold it in late March / April of next year. This time I think we should go darn sarf. So, who is up for it? recommendations as to courses/accomodation/dates are always welcome.

Given the number of members on here then we really should be getting a great turn-out. I have attended every single golf day and have made some good friends, so come on lads - what do you all think?

EDIT : Jan 14th 2008 :

The course is now "The Braids" in Edinburgh, the date is April 11th 2008.

Price is £30 for 9 holes in the morning and 18 in the afternoon on the No.1 course - voted 74th in the top 100 courses in the UK

Confirmed starters so far are :

Me : Paid in full
Abbeygoo
Signs : Paid in full
Domtheone : Deposit paid
Ashworthacca
C225 (the first mod we have had on a golf day...well batted) : £5 deposit paid
Booyaka : Deposit paid
Geomuss : Deposit paid
Owen.s (Yee ha...sounds of gunshots and horses hooves) : Paid in full - in pesos
deanym : Paid in full
Shandypants
Antonin
Adrenochrome

..and joining us just for the evening :

pave (legend)
dunks517
unique

Re: The Proper AVForums Golf Day V

could we possibly go a bit further north?

maybe the borders or east lothian would be ideal, may be able to get us cheap accomodation and transport!

Re: The Proper AVForums Golf Day V

Scotland is a good shout for me! Happy to potentially recommend any courses around the Ayrshire/Glasgow/Edinburgh area.

Also prestwick/Glasgow airport is a good potential for people to get Ryanair/easyjet flights etc if needed.

Re: The Proper AVForums Golf Day V

yeah I think Scotland is a real possibility - we've had a few more people from up north express an interest than anywhere else I think .... so my vote is for Scotland.

A nearby suitable evening entertainment venue is a must!

(It's part of AVF golf day folklore............)

If Edinburgh is close enough then that will do - plenty of quality establishments for the night time entertainment.

Re: The Proper AVForums Golf Day V

Morning gentlemen

Glad you enjoyed GD4.5 and all the associated entertainment - so did the holy grail of lapdances - "The Triple" - occur then?

Obviously I'd vote for darn sarf as I'm already here, but I enjoyed my trip to Edinburgh coastline in september - the courses were all great and local pubs were quality.

Can't speak for Edinburgh city centre as we never made it that far

Shandy

PS
We played The Glen at North Berwick, Gullane no 2 and 3, and Kilspindie GC

This sounds great and would get my vote

However, we'll see what interest is generated and take it from there.

Yep, we wont bother with polls as it then takes 2 months to decide a date. So, when do you suggest - I reckon mid to back end of April again.

Scotland/North East would be good!

Or I could try to get something fixed up down South, although not being a member of anywhere may hinder that.

Re: The Proper AVForums Golf Day V

Just had a PM from Johnnie Vespats - he is more than up for it and has suggested this magnificent golf club just on the outskirts of Edinburgh - CLICKY.

If another course slightly nearer Edinburgh is used then he will not be able to make April 18th 2008, as he is due to sprain his ankle again on the morning of April 17th.

Re: The Proper AVForums Golf Day V

edinburgh wise i can recommend - Royal Mussleburgh, Mussleburgh, any of the Gullane courses (cost dependant), Prestonfield, Duddingston, North Berwick, Craigmillar, all from personal experience.

Also some of the public edinburgh courses are excellent and very cheap, mainly Braid Hills is probably the most stunning views of edinburgh you will see from anywhere.

Date should be fine for my debut attendance.

"Ever wondered why the standard hole size is 4.25 inches? It's based on the size of the first known hole cutter, which was used from 1829 at Musselburgh Old Course. The dimension was adopted in 1893 by the Royal & Ancient and has been used ever since."

I quite fancy Scotland as well - it's not a foregone conclusion yet though, need to see how many other potential new members make recommendations. You have a healthy lead though, and Steve (Abbeygoo) is rather partial to a deep fried Mars Bar

Would need to go to Glasgow really to get a deep fried mars bar - it's a west coast thing, not an east coast thing!!

It's like what you have on your chips.

Salt and Vinegar on the west coast, Salt and sauce on the east!!
