AVF MCFC thread - "we're not really here"

Open to all City fans to discuss the performances of our blue shirted heroes over the coming season. Should be an exciting one with Sven at the helm and a host of new signings .... I think the hardest thing at the Derby County home game next week will be recognising who's who!

I think we should be optimistic about this season but at the same time realistic. It's going to take time for these new players to gel together and get used to their surroundings .... for me, a top ten finish should be the aim and then build on that for next season.

Knowing City, it's never straightforward though, eh?

Come on City!

I'm not a city fan, but good luck for the coming season
I'm sure you'll do a lot better than last season, you've bought some good players, who might take a bit to gel and you've got a manager who's got a good reputation as a good club manager.

Yeah, all the best for your lot this season mate - crossing swords tomorrow, you never know, being an unknown quantity for a while could be a great thing for City.

Heart says a 2-1 win tomorrow, head says scoring draw... what say you?

A draw would be a decent start for us, having some many new faces and we're struggling for a keeper at the moment! I would take a draw but have a feeling you may well sneak it 2-1.

Re: AVF MCFC thread - "we're not really here"

Come on the Bluuuueeeessssss!

Very strange feeling running up to this season - 14 years a season ticket holder, and this year I've not got one. I got so fed up last year and so despondent about the fact I can never see anyone breaking the top 4 stranglehold I swore I wouldn't buy one again until the FA changed the rules on salaries and transfer fees.

So then we get all this new owner/players/manager malarky and I've now been tempted enough to buy a Citycard and have a ticket for both the Derby and THE Derby match and I feel dirty Simultaneously excited and still despondent because the situation really hasn't changed.

But for now, I can't wait to settle down to watch MOTD tomorrow night and shout at the telly all over again! Bring on the Hammers!

I think you'll be signing Scott Carson quite soon, not before tomorrow though.

Re: AVF MCFC thread - "we're not really here"

This is the business, our own new shiney thread, cheers Steve.

Lets hope it remains so for the rest of the season.

Got to say looking forward to the first home game next Wednesday, certainly going to be a lot to chat about in the pub before hand. There's going to be some expectation I think. But lets not get too carried away, give the boys some time to gel. However if we're not top at the end of the third game then I'm giving up. Seriously though I think it will take a little time, but bring it on.

Come on you blues

Re: AVF MCFC thread - "we're not really here"

Will be enjoying a few beers in the sunshine next Wednesday afternoon in the city centre before wandering on up to the ground.

Scott Carson will be superb but thought he was going to Villa??

Anyway, this season marks my 20th year as a season ticket holder and nearly didn't renew myself still, I thought, if I renewed when we got relegated to Div 3 then then I must renew this time

Really pleased with Sven and the signings as we have signed players on the way up rather than "known names" who are on the way down and looking for one more pay day ..... McManaman, Fowler, Sinclair, Hamann, D Mills, Seaman etc

I'll be having a few bevvies in town too, let's hope the weathers nice enough and we have a keeper by then! (In fact, one for tomorrow would be nice!) They're talking about Carson, Amelia, Jaaskelainen and Schwarzer on the MEN website...

You'll still get beat.

Got to be honest,it's interesting whats happening over the road, what with all these relatively unknown signings for decent money.Get a goalie and you will have almost have purchased a full team. Are these signings gonna be starters?

As always looking forward to the derby,in the hope there will a bit of local passion from boths teams that's been missing for years now.

Re: AVF MCFC thread - "we're not really here"

Anyone seen anything of Elano yet?

I bought him in our Fantasy Football Auction last night on the basis of what I've read + the Telegraph giving him a fairly high value alone so I hope he's a success for you boys.

Talked someone else into going for Bojinov too....

I think the 4 key buys (so far!) have been Elano (Brazilian midfielder who actually plays for the national team?!? Thought I'd never see the day!), Bojinov (spoken of highly, though I've never heard of him), Petrov (lightning quick winger - blues love this kind of player, we have a good history of wingers) and Corluka (highly rated £7m defender who's still young).

Throw in a goalkeeper and can't forget player of the season Dunne and we've got the spine of a good team there!

EDIT: Found a great article here that argues Sven has been spot on signing the best young European talent around instead of over-priced English players. Makes a refreshing change!

Re: AVF MCFC thread - "we're not really here"

yeah a good read that. The one that struck a chord with me was the Kieron Richardson / Martin Petrov comparison.

Richardson for £5.5m? When we were supposedly linked with him, I was dreading it. If you don't think English players are overrated and overvalued then Richardson is the prime example to prove you wrong.

Looking forward to seeing Petrov, Elano and Bianchi the most.

Re: AVF MCFC thread - "we're not really here"

Scott Carson has joined Aston Villa on a season long loan.

Hmmm, who's going to play in goal on Saturday? It must be Joe Hart with Kasper Schmeichel on the bench all those millions spent on outfield players, we let Weaver leave on a free to Charlton and then Isaksson breaks his thumb .......

Re: AVF MCFC thread - "we're not really here"

Well, we couldn't have asked for a better start than that. West Ham have spent money over the summer and to win away from without conceding is a great start. Good to see two of the "unknowns" scoring too.

Roll on Match of the Day!!

I'm kicking myself. For the dream team it was Ferdinand or Micah Richards

Re: AVF MCFC thread - "we're not really here"

By all accounts City were excellent today, what a difference from last season - technically much better - not quite sure what that says about homegrown players but that's another argument!

I reckon it's more or less like promoted-side syndrome, being a bit of an unknown quantity could do wonders for City this season.

Congrats lads, off to a cracking start... (through gritted teeth).

And don't worry LFC, my first choice Sorensen was apparently injured for this weekend so I had to replace him with.... Jaaskelainen. My Dream Team curse starts once again
