Real Madrid , flawed logic ?

They have sacked Capello .
Ok so he wasn't popular , but he won them the title . It just seems madness to me . Didn't they sack the last manager just after he won the title ? Look where they have been since then .

There's absolutley no way Wenger would go to Madrid! It's just not his style. Also, they need a manager now, not in 12 months time

I think not. Let me see............Wenger hates intrusive, sack happy boards, and Reals board is notorious for - being intrusive and sack happy!

Barca if Rijkaard goes next year yes, Real no.

So he'll be going next year then - to replace the 2007/2008 season's manager...

Re: Real Madrid , flawed logic ?

They sacked him because of how he treated Beckham and the expected loss of income due to his departure.

Have you seen the figures on shirt sales etc when Beckham went to Real compared to seasons without him? Staggering.

If Real are short of cash they have only themselves to blame, not Capello. They went spend mental a few years back to the tune of getting themselves seriously in debt. They've turned that around, but it's not Capello's doing that they've had too.

I think he'll see out his last year at Arsenal, wait for France to crash & burn in Euro 2008 & take over as international manager with a 2 year World Cup campaign ahead of him (although, give France another year & the entire international side will retire).

That's the most likely scenario. And who could blame him? He isn't a power freak like a certain Scottish gentleman, and he's always said that's the job he wants to finish on.

And would you have Capello managing Arsenal in place of Wenger?

Well, if we are going purely on success, Capello is right up there in the top drawer. He's one of the 'Golden few' who have consistently won the highest honours in the game, in two of the four traditionally toughest leauges to win. I don't doubt he could succeed in England.

What I do doubt though, is that Arsenal fans could take his sort of football after the Golden years of Wengers game.

Re: Real Madrid , flawed logic ?

I thought that as well but didn't want to cast aspersions on the Arsenal of old first.

Who would you have instead? There aren't many in the Wenger mold and I'll be sad to see him leave the Prem when he does eventually go.

Re: Real Madrid , flawed logic ?

Madrid have always been bonkers when it comes to managers. They seem incapable of keeping one for longer than a season or two. The only bonus of him going is that Bernd Schuster will now be taking over. And he has done some marvellous things with Getafe in his time. And I just have a felling he will be there for some time.

Re: Real Madrid , flawed logic ?

My 2p worth:

Capello was sacked I believe because of his style more than anything. He plays a very Italian game and the Spaniards don't like it. Madrid fans especially like 'good' football as well as results, and he was getting a lot of bad press from very early in the season.

I don't think the Beckham deal was important in the sacking - they are just using that as an excuse. After all, when he was dropped he was playing poorly, and Calderon and Mijatovic both slagged off Beckham themselves after he signed for LA Galaxy. They only changed their tune when he started playing well in the run-in and helped the team win.

I am happy to see Schuster be the next manager. He did very good things with Getafe on a tight budget. Plus he was an ex player and will know all abou the behind scenes nonsense at the Bernabeu. Whether he will be there long term remains to be seen.

Wenger would be a great man for Madrid - but I don't think he'd take it. There would be too much interference for him and he wouldn't be allowed to build a team over a few years.

As for debt, Madrid have none. They are loaded !! Partly due to clever marketing and of course Becks. I think they will try their best to get Kaka this summer, and Calderon has hinted he will pay £50million for him.
