Sir Iron Bottom

The worst kept secret in the world has finally been confirmed today with the announcement of the knighthood in the Queen's Birthday Honours.

A great cricketer and tireless worker for charity.

Yup. One Knighthood I agree with. Botham was not only a great club and country cricketer, he has tirelessly worked for charity, and done it, unlike so many 'pop stars' and businessmen, without blowing his own trumpet. Nice one Sir Ian!

He deserves it just for that one match.

Re: Sir Iron Bottom

Not really a great cricket fan but feel that this honour is well-deserved.

I always remember the excitement that Beefy generated in those Ashes matches in the 80s, and his work for charity is second to none. Great news

Re: Sir Iron Bottom

Much as I disagree with the current honours system(total anachronism)I do believe Ian Botham should receive a gong of some sort.Still refuse to address him as Sir though.

Re: Sir Iron Bottom

Agreed, this was one of the few knighthoods that has pleased me over the years
