Estonia v England - at lasta safe bet?

I have not had much look over the last couple of seasons whenever I do a football bet.

But watching the Estonia v Croatia game the other night I thought that Estonia will DEFINITELY not score against England on Wednesday.

So I was thinking about a series of cover bets, based on how many I think England might score.

0-1: is 13/2, a £5 bet will return £37.50
0-2: is 9/2, a £5 bet will return £27.50
0-3: is 6/1, a £5 bet will return £35

Now I realise that you are betting against yourself, but if one of these 3 scores comes up, you will at least nearly double your money.

Or knowing my luck England will get 4 !!

Any gamblers out there think this is a good bet?

England to win 3-0. Too much is being made of this game being 'Mclarens last chance' so it will be an easy walkover, and he'll be 'the man' again.

Well, as far the FA are concerned anyway..............

I fancy that £5 bet on the 3-0!

Hold your horses, rumours of Kieran Dyer being brought into defence! Aside from whatever tinkering McClaren does do, England are always conceding soft goals. There may be better odds for betting Estonia DO score.

Despite Englands capability to let in soft goals, I would also be suprised if Estonia get a goal.
Like RMCF, I watched the Estonia & Croatia game and I assume they will set up the same way againt England, which is too say their aim is to just make it as hard as possible to score - why they havent scored on 6 qualifiers.

1-0 England, perhaps Becks to cross to Crouch. I'll laugh just 'cos, but overkill will point out my short sightedness

I would stake a fiver on that!

Can't see why anyone would start with Brown.

I've done 3-0 England.

King and Terry are by far the best pairing for England.
When has King ever let or had a bad game for his country?
He'd be in front of JC everytime for me.
Would of started JC instead of Brown though.Bet Robinsons
himself now he's seen Brown might be playing.

Although I have no massive preference, Terry, King, Woodgate etc....I always find it strange how Carragher has defended successfully against more world class strikers than any English defender - Managers across Europe rave about him but yet he's normally 4th or 5th choice for England.

Carrager is an excellent centre half,i just think the best pairing for England is King and Terry.Don't rate Ferdinand at all.

Ditto. I rate Carragher, but's he's not all that comfortable when I've seen him for England. Still should be on the bench though, miles ahead of far-behind.

I agree totally but then by playing 18 different positions when you're are call up once in a blue moon doesn't help at all. The guy should have 30+ caps by now at centreback - he would then be first choice CB in an England shirt & leading by example.

JT scares me equally in an England shirt, King hasn't set the world alight but done a job, Rio's just plan ordinary but quick...Woodgate's the only one that's really impressed me on the few appearances he's had.

Against these muppets we should be playing 3 at the back anyway - but then our manager's never think of actually chosing the formation based on the opposition...

I have no problem with Wes Brown coming in, he's had a decent season but why bother swapping an out of position RB or another one. Pointless tickering

Re: Estonia v England - at lasta safe bet?

The stats don't lie.

Going by % of points won in an england team, the best to chose are:

John Terry : 74.3
Ledly King : 73.5
Rio Ferdinand : 69.8
Jamie Carragher : 63.6
Wes Brown : 55:00
Jonathan Woodgate : 41.7

Here's the Jamie v Ledley head to head:

I agree with 3 at the back.

I would go for (but i know richardson played last night!)
Jamie, JT, King
Becks, Gerrard, Joe Cole, Richardson

Lamps
owen (not sure, but who else ?lol) , plus one other (bent, johnson ??)

Not true. How has that data been manipulated? And what pre-conceived point is it proving?

Re: Estonia v England - at lasta safe bet?

well because they are just numbers and do not actually prove anything. Liek any stats they need to be in context of other data, such as, number of games played, who against, what trype of game etc.

For example someone could have played 10 world games and 10 euro finals games against very strong opposition and their "stats" could look bad (as it is based on whole team performace not individual.

Likewise someone could have played a load of friendlies against poor opposition and their stats would be good.

The point is, those stats do not prove any individual performance, just an overall team performance.

Re: Estonia v England - at lasta safe bet?

Brown has played on the right for Man Utd as opposed to Carager who is a centre back, Carager is the second most overated defender...behind rio ferdiannd - who despite being overated is still the second best english defender behind terry

Re: Estonia v England - at lasta safe bet?

I would have t disagree lol. Jamie is one of the best in the world at centre back, and is far more reliable than Brown in any position.

Of course, it does depend on what you want from your full backs, whist Jamie is not a wing back, or brilliant at going forward (neither is Brown for that matter), he is a solid and reliable defender.

But for this game, I have already said, we do not need a fortress at the back, we should play with 3, in which case, Brown would not be one of those.

Unless you want goal creating mistakes !

I will go for 6-0 lol after the under 21s scored 5 last night the A team should do as well if not better. But honestly i can see it only being more like 3-0.

If stats don't lie then JC should play. As a defender he is there to stop the team conceding goals and JC's record is better than LK's.

Just goes to show you can get them to say whatever you like.

Re: Estonia v England - at lasta safe bet?

Wes Brown used to be great bombing up the right at the start of his career, but Fergie has used him as a Centre Back for ages now. Maybe McClaren has seen in training that he still has the pace he had 5 years ago and is willing to go with him instead of Carragher who he already knows will camp in his RB slot and hoof the ball every time it gets near him.
