Re: joey barton sams first signing

He's a good player & if we can get him for 5.5M & sell Parker for 8.5M I think he represents good value.

Unfortunately, he has a few few loose screws & Sam may have bitten off more than he can chew. What was disturbing for me is that he gave a very good interview with Sky saying all the right things & then they showed some of the headlines & actions on the pitch. He's a crackerjack

If Sam can get him to control his temper & shut his gob about fellow team-mates/ other players he'll do a good job.

If not, god help him down the Quayside................

Apparently, we will insert a clause for if he get's sent down - says it all really.

Nah, Dyer can hurt himself with no help. Seriously though, I do hope Dyer stays fit. On of their better players

So did Parker want to leave or was he pushed? Barton isn't bad if you control the other stuff, but I don't see him as anything more than an average player. Am I missing something?

In other news, I applaud big Sam for dumping most of the defence, most notably Bramble... so I guess Whelan should enjoy the good times whilst he can Give my regards to Sheff Utd Dave

I don`t believe it! I thought Sam`s first job would be to bring stability to the squad/club, and here we go again bringing, possibly more problems to an already fragile team. I bet nobody buys his shirt ???? Hurry up Shearer with those coaching badges....

Why do Newcastle fans think Shearer is the answer to all your problems and will reverse your lack of success.I don't expect him to take the job unless its all been stabilised and the makings of a decent team is already in place,he doesn't have the balls to try and live up to your high expectations or he would have already been there.Top players rarely make good managers.

Why dont you give him (Allardyce) a chance... ok you may not agree with the signing, but I really do think the fans need to give big Sam a chance, otherwise its going to go the same way as with other managers.

To be fair, I think Big Sam is our best chance of success for a long time, I never wanted most of the managers we have previously had but I am happy at the appointment of Big Sam, and whatever anyone thinks of Joey Barton, maybe just maybe he can do a job for us?

On another note, has he even actually signed because I have not seen any evidence yet to suggest he actually has signed yet.

Re: joey barton sams first signing

Good luck with Barton, I think you'll need it. Granted he is a good player, but there's something not quite right about him, there's always the capacity for "something to go off".

Don't forgot Dabo has asked the police to press charges so there's even a chance he could go down, though unlikely.

It's really another Lee Bowyer job I think. Like City I think Newcastle have bought too many gash players Sibierski and Bramble spring to mind, and they've now gone.

Give big Sam a chance I think he'll do well for the Toon, if he can keep Barton in check

Re: joey barton sams first signing

Strange scenario here - West Ham have also had a bid accepted for Joey Barton, so potentially at least we could end up with both Parker and Barton?!

That would leave NRC at Newcastle I think...

Exactamundo!

Apparently Newcastle have put Barton on a recognition course, rather like the RAF do. The theory is, that, that way when he goes to assault someone they won't be wearing a Black and white striped kit............

Let's hope it's not an American Air Force course otherwise watch out for friendly fire
I'm amazed Sam hasn't tried to take Anelka with him to Newcastle.

Re: joey barton sams first signing

I must admit to some concern about Sams signings and targets.
It tends to be managers of little clubs that have to go for misfits/psychos and out of contracts.

Still - early days yet, and at least things are getting shaken up a bit.

Re: joey barton sams first signing

In all fairness though, given how inflated our transfer market is anyway, plus the TV revenue for the coming season, £5.5million actually represents very good business for an England international of Barton's quality (personal problems aside).

You never know, Big Fat Sam may well have been suitably astute on this one (and not a brown paper bag in sight? )

Last time I checked!

You know as well as I do that when a player pulls on that international shirt, especially if he's English, the transfer fee multiplies. (If we do put in a bit for Nicky Shorey we're sure to find that out now he's had a game for England)...

... therefore £5.5mill for Barton isn't a bad bit of business really is it?

Barton hasn't signed yet "matter of hours" according to the people at Sky Sports however Viduka has moved.

Anyone seen the Reo Cocker interview btw? He really doesn't want to go to Villa by avoiding answering the question if he would go there...think he's looking for a London club or MUTD, LPOOL, or NUTD - doesn't want to go to Birmingham lol

As West Ham fans have said, Reo is suffering from monster 'head swell' syndrome. Frankly, after the shambles he was for 80% of last season I hope Wenger will just laugh him off. We have enough 'big ead's' in the team as it is!

I just find it funny how his aspirations will change with the lack of interest - one minute it's one of the big four, next it's Villa, who next, Wigan? Southend? Orient?!

NRC says that he's not wanted but he has not once this past season nailed his colours to the mast... but I'd say most West Ham fans are a more generous bunch than they were, if he was willing to draw a line under it all, take away his transfer request and say the right things then we would benefit from having him improve in the coming years in our midfield.

My hunch is that he's been told he won't be captain next season, or has asked for a pay rise and been refused. But he appears to want to burn the bridge completely due to this - possibly agent-inspired - messiah compex he has going on.

Sorry for going off-topic... with Joey Barton you can apply the same principles to NRC, a change of management, area, etc, could be exactly what he needs to grow up and become the player he potentially can be... which is a damn good one. If the Toon is his destination it'll be interesting to see what Fat Sam does with him...

I hate to say it, and apart from Fergie, if anyone can bring Barton under control it's Big Sam, but I just can't see it. Some players are bad egg's, and there's just nothing you can do about it. This is nothing new, nothing exceptional even, but it's a fact.

Barton has shown no interest in getting himself sorted out, and really, as Teachers know only too well, if Sam devotes too much time sorting one 'naughty boy' out, then the rest of the team will suffer.

He's a big gamble on Sams part. I hope for Newcastles sake it pays off.
