Which Football trophy, and why?

Ok folks.

Which trophy available to our footie teams would mean the most, and why?

I know we may have some biased opinions from Man U and Liverpool fans here But it would be interesting to see which trophy is valued most. Reasons are important too.

For me, I think the Premiership title is the most important, although I'd probably say the Champions League is the most coveted.

Cheers

Kaz

Re: Which Football trophy, and why?

Well you could've limited it to 2 choices really.

There's little to choose between them; any club would view the season as a sucess if they won either.

The Premiership is all about consistency and beating 'lesser' sides week-in-week-out, whereas the CL is about raising your game against the 'best-of-the-best'.

However, I voted for the Prem. (and I'm a 'pool fan btw) as, over the course of the season, you can't get lucky to get through a particular round, which is possible in the CL (and no I'm not referring to the semis against Chelsea - totally deserved ).

I do agree with Kaz though that the CL has more cachet.

Re: Which Football trophy, and why?

Err', theres no vote for none of them? They're all de-valued and crap now. I voted on the basis of history. So the FA cup then.

Once there was only a fag paper between them in terms of clubs and fans value, but I agree, nowadays, all the 'big boy's' want the Prem.

Well, four of them, well, two of them..........

As for the CL, don't get me started on that mickey mouse tourni! Change it back to champs only or just re-name it what is; 'the euro leauge for rich and greedy G14 ****wipes'.

Or the ELRGG14A cup!

I did By mistake I read it quickly and thought it said the league.

I meant to vote for the prem title, hardest one to win as its over an entire season and you can drop so few matches. In knock out based competitions you are always going to have to rely on a little luck.

Re: Which Football trophy, and why?

Before 2005 I would have voted for the European Cup as most important from a personal point of view, as it was the only major trophy win I hadn't been present at.
Now I want us to win the league and follow it up with a European Cup win, as champions, just like we used to

Premier because it shows you're the best in the country week-in week-out. But the Champions League has so much more prestige

It's like the difference between owning a CL65 AMG or an Alpha Romeo 8C Competizione

Re: Which Football trophy, and why?

I think its sticks and stones

The Premiership is the Aston Martin, James Bond of the trophies. The CL is the alternative flash Lamborghini. The UEFA Cup is the Porsche Boxster for those who can't afford the 911. The FAC is the classic Jag; very Michael Caine "The Italian Job". The LC is Del Boy's van

I am aware of the mode of transport in the self preservation society, so just work with me

Re: Which Football trophy, and why?

While winning the championship used to be the test of the 'best', now it's just a test of the best spin-merchant, and the winner between the guys with the biggest wallet.

17 years ago I'd have said:-

Leauge championship

FA cup

European Cup

UEFA cup

Cup winners Cup

Leyland Daf Trophy

Midlands sunday Cup

Oh, and the Leauge cup

If you're going to use car analogies, the Premiership is more like a tacky salesmens BMW than a top Italian job. Even the trophy is naff.

Overblown, chintzy, and therefore ideally suited to the competition itself.

Either Premier League or Champions League for me as i've seen Spurs win the others.

Very much doubt i'll see Spurs win either in my life time though.

Re: Which Football trophy, and why?

I think you can ask, man u , chelsea, arsenal, real, milan, and any other major club in europe and they will all take the European cup over any domestic one.

apart from perhaps Liverpool, who have won it so many times now it is getting boring . They would probably vote for Permiership!
