Whatever happens, another season of mediocrity beckons for Newcastle next season

Congratulations if they prove me wrong, but I won't hold my breath

Big Sam yet another messiah according to a lot of Newcastle fans,I wonder if they will be calling for his head in 12mths time(assuming he gets the job).

That's usually how goes isn't it.

Re: Glen Roder been sacked

Thing is, I cant see that we have any better options?

Roeder is clearly not good enough. There were members on here who said it 12 months ago, and to be fair, I would have agreed. Glenn has at least broken the record of finishing 7th when taking over then getting relegated, as we've just managed to avoid it this time.

O'Neill is gone, Mourinho - wouldnt want him, Sven - please!

Really, who would have been a better option than Sam? Thats even assuming he takes over. Thats all speculation at the minute.

And lets face it, although I am a newcastle fan, I can admit that the job cant be all that appealing to any top manager.

Indeed, but really he's only any good if you give him £200m to spend!

Anyway, this is STILL speculation as far as I can tell, nobody has confirmed Roeders sacking yet. He has been summoned to a boardroom meeting, although to be honest I doubt its to pat him on the back and tell him how well he's done.

Yep, a poisoned chalice, IMO, same as the England job.
Expectations are a bit too high ATM, seeing as Souness ruined your club, IMO.
I like the barcodes, as do most neutrals.
But just get the feeling that you don't give your managers enough time.
I feel the problem is at the top.
And the sooner you get a buyout, the better.
But, in all fairness, I saw your mob booing the team off yesterday, so no doubt you know a lot more than me about the situation

Hey, you could do a lot worse than Fat Sam, IMO.
Very organised and knows what he's about
Alledgedly likes a bung, but don't they all?

Re: Glen Roder been sacked

I would definitely settle for allardyce personally. He looks a better bet than pretty any manager since keegan really.... i mean look whats happenned since he went... dalglish who ruined the entertaining team, gullit who just didnt care, robson who is a nice man but made some iffy signing and lost the respect of the team, souness who nobody wanted at all ever, and roeder, who was the cheap option.

If we get allardyce then thats great for me, but a lot of lads up here are not keen, but what other options do we have.

Agreed, we have MON, who was your best bet

I suspect Fat Sam will do a good job for you, given time though
Although, it appears Sammy Lee was important in the Bolton management team, so it'll be interesting to see how it goes.
The interesting thing is how will he handle being given some decent dough to spend?

Just come out of the labour club and the feeling is nobody wants Sam , main reasons being , too many overseas players, no youth policy and the long ball tactics, we missed our chance last year with Martin o Neil. Can`t wait till the new season starts.....

Although it seems common knowledge that Newcastle turned down MON, I've heard many times, that he turned you down, mainly down to the distance from where the ON's live, but whatever, it's not important.

As for your post, well, I'd suggest Bolton and Newcastle are different league.
Fat Sam had to scrimp at Bolton, but with some dough to spend, he could do the bizz for you

Fat Sam didnt play the long ball game at Bolton, its a myth started by the southern press, he plays to his players strengths. Kevin Davies was that strength, so when he played, the ball was played to him. As for the overseas players, he only bought according to the funds available, which were very limited, so if a player became available at the correct price, his nationality didn't matter. Sam started a youth acadamy recently, but he was pushed before the players were good enough for the first team.

I'm sure you agree, he did a great job for you
It's a shame that the club's ambitions weren't as high as his.
I really think, given the funds (which could possibly have put you in a Leeds type situation, to be fair), you could have got Europe regularly, which would have paid for itself.
I really think Bolton might be in trouble now, in the same way as charlton, in that, your league position is better than it should be

Yep. He did a fantastic job for us at Bolton, and im sure he will do a fantastic job for his next club.
You may be correct about us being in a false postion, but, if we get in to Europe again, the chairman has said he will back Sammy Lee to the hilt in the transfer market. Anelka has said he will stay aswell, we just need to get a stable back 4/5.

Same thing at the end of the day, although it makes a difference to the pay-off, I suppose.

Re: Glen Roder been sacked

From what I heard ( not really reliable but is sometimes right)
Roeder was told Watford was his last game in charge then he would be sacked. Roeder thought who cares get out now so he handed in his resignation.
Again like i said I don't know how reliable my friend is but he knows more about NUFC than me.
I would have liked to have seen Roeder go back to academy director, he did well with the youngsters and look what they did in the first team.
