too early IMO. He's had one season at championship level. The gap between championship and Premiership is huge. I would however love to see Keano being manager at Utd.

Re: Well done Mackems

Thing is when he got the job many thought Quinn was mad and Keano untried,no experience whatsover(obviously correct)and he was gonna batter every one in the changing room, row with the press and opposing managers and take on refs at every opportunity.Well Keano kept his mouth shut and got on with the job with class and dignity.Agreed its early days but he has proven(so far)to be a class act.A good couple of seasons in the Prem with Sunderland and I cant see him not joining UTD as Fergies replacement.

Totally agree. Keanes proved everybody wrong by keeping his head, talking sense off the pitch and letting the team do the talking on it. In terms of achievement he couldn't have done better. Takes over with Sunderland carrying on where they left off from last years awful campaign, playing badly, he takes them out of the bottom three, then, in the new year, gets in amongst the chasing pack, and finally wins the leauge.

Roy of the rovers stuff!

If I remember rightly, didn't their last Irish manager get them promoted as Championship winners by quite a margin?

To be quickly followed by being relegated from the PL by a record small number of points.

Isn't that normal with every Mick McCarthy team he manages.
He joins a long list of people who just can't hack it in the prem.
We all know Keano won't have much money to spend but I'm sure he will know talent when he see it and will keep Sunderland up next season.

That's rather harsh mate. The players they already have are far from talentless.

so how do we need 11 m8,you seen some of the squads in that league that have stayed up,our players we have now are just as good if not better, but keano will buy the players he thinks will do a job not players who you pay over the odds for,you look at reading how many 10 million pound players have they got and were are they in the league, dont judge us if you havent watched us play all season m8

Re: Well done Mackems

Reading bits and pieces , it would seem that Keane instilled a bit of professionalism , self respect and discipline to the squad . Infact , pretty much the same Wenger did on arrival at Arsenal ( I could give examples , but I won't). Everyone was given their chance and it was either Keanes way or your out . Look at the players that missed the coach the other week , other than the fact they missed it what else has been said ? Nothing . What happens in the dressing room , stayed there .
He also managed to get a whole load of players in on loan .Quinns backers are prepared to spend the money .
New manager at OT . Why not , the question is would he want to be the one to follow SAF ?

25 million sound an awful lot of money for a promoted team.

I hope you don't end up being another Leeds!

I'm not so sure. They're both unproved in spending that type of money.

And what with the improved wages they're going to have to pay the players, I just hope for your sake thast it doesn't all end in tears.

West Ham aren't known as being big spenders but a couple of seasons ago, we were within a few hours of becoming another Leeds and were only bailed out at the eleventh hour by Chelsea buying Joe Cole (?).

Re: Well done Mackems

This is the big quandary that faces promoted teams now. Do they try and build a team with new signings to stay up, or risk struggling with the current crop? If the manager is worth his salt, arguably, it needn't matter with the former - unless you are a play off winner. Just look at Bolton and Reading. Both clubs have established themselves using pretty much the same team as came up, and then in Boltons case, making sensible buys to maintain momentum.

Tbh the play off systems bankruptcy is revealed by the number of teams that have plummeted after winning the play-offs. But then again, with a good manager, they can survive.

Question is, is can Keane cut the mustard in the top flight? Only time and some tough games will tell us that.
