Sam Allardyce just resigned!

Where's he off to next then? Could it be to manage England?

Re: Sam Allardyce just resigned!

Blimey! That one came out of the blue! Mum will be 'sick as a parrot'. She's always had a soft spot for him since his playing days.......... Who will step in though? Bolton are massively over-achieving these days, and to keep that up will take someone pretty special.

And there aren't too many 'pretty special' managers available right now. Or 'pretty special' period tbh............

Sammy Lee? ... Not sure if the resignation is with immediate effect, so Lee might be caretaker for the last couple of games, but apparently he's made it clear that he wants to be a "No. 1"

Sam and Jose swapping jobs? ... It's closer than ever now! .. Remember... you heard it first here!

Re: Sam Allardyce just resigned!

Yes the resignation is with immediate effect.
Something serious has gone on behind the scenes, and my source (a local radio football commentator) still doesnt know what.
He has been linked with he City job, but leaving with just 2 matches left does leave us in a very bad position.

Just thinking about that. Bolton want that UEFA cup place, and this might undermine them. Hope not as that would let that nasty lot from NL in!

Daren't ring mum, as she'll have a right rant!

Re: Sam Allardyce just resigned!

Im gutted to be honest, not that he has left, but the timing of it.
With 2 games left to get back in to Europe, this will severly undermine the clubs abitions.

I wouldnt think so. Sammy Lee will take over till the end of the season, then who knows?
Who ever takes over next season will have a very depleted team. Players like Anelka, Ben Hiam and Jaskelainen will now leave.

Re: Sam Allardyce just resigned!

So he left a job where his exploits linked him to the England job. Now he is linked with Man City, but I don't know how much we should read into that?

Relegation conspirators abound, guess who West Ham play next!

Re: Sam Allardyce just resigned!

According to the news of the world (yes I know not the best source lol), Sam has made a huge mistake.

Quote:
SAM ALLARDYCE will be jobless after an amazing blunder over his decision to quit Bolton.

Sport of the World understands he resigned at the Reebok after being ASSURED he would become the new Manchester City boss.

But Allardyce was MISLED into believing his pal and former City star Ray Ranson is guaranteed to take over the Premier club.

However, we can reveal former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra dramatically emerged as favourite to take charge at City after a rival £100 million offer was submitted.

He is unlikely to hire Allardyce, preferring to look for a top European coach in the mould of Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho.

Allardyce handed in his resignation to Bolton chairman Phil Gartside last week. Gartside was livid and immediately sent Allardyce home on gardening leave.

But in a bid to cover up the astonishing behind-the-scenes row, Big Sam joined his squad at Stamford Bridge for the clash with Chelsea.
http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/stor...t/sport2.shtml

If true, talk about a mess up lol.

Re: Sam Allardyce just resigned!

City would be quite a bad investment. Manchester already has a dominant team and city have quite a small supporter base. They're unlikely to draw support from the rest of the north west as there are already two dominant teams (Liverpool and United).

Big Sam should get another job, god knows where though.

If a 40,000 average over the last three seasons, despite being poor, and with a huge neighbour to contend with, is evidence of a 'thin support base' then God knows what your idea of a weeny support base must be!

Well said OK, as much as I despise City - noone can say that they have a small fan base...their attendance figures are testament to this.

He's currently at a barbeque, no doubt getting smashed at the excitement of having "Big Sam" at the Asda Eastlands (more commonly known as "City of Mcr Stadium").

He did have to change his avatar this morning though, when I told him that "Big Sam" was coming to City he initially changed his avatar to this...

Well if that's true, I don't get it? I'd say only 1 or 2 clubs are even close to merely challenging for a top 4 place and "hell" and "snow and Christmas cheer" come to mind before Big Same taking those jobs!

I think that comment has been responded to by other forum members - ridiculous statement to make. City have always been one of England's most supported clubs and facts can not change this.

Liverpool and United already draw huge crowds but so do Everton and City. Small supporter base? When we were in Division 3 we averaged crowds of 28,000 - lets see how Leeds compare to that next season.

Anyway, back to Big Sam - bit of a shock him resigning but I don't think it's a done deal him coming to City as manager. Time will tell - and to NWhiteley, sorry about the avatar, couldn't resist!

LEE NAMED NEW BOLTON BOSS

Bolton Wanderers have named Sammy Lee as Sam Allardyce's successor at The Reebok. Trotters fans were left shocked on Sunday by Allardyce's sudden resignation, fueling speculation who might take over. However, Bolton have made a swift appointment in naming Lee as the club 17th post-war manager.

Re: Sam Allardyce just resigned!

Great pictures LFC - glad he got rid of that 'tache

What a great job he did at Bolton, I think he would do a great job at City and an even greater job for England. Personally I would like to see him at a top flight club with great players - like us or Chelsea, would be interesting to see if he could get anymore from these type of players as opposed to having to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.
