Dario Gradi leaves Alex manager post...

What a credit this fella is to football - only Ferguson left now and once he stops managing we'll be left with no real long-standing managers in our game.

The thing about Gradi is that he's unearthed so many good players throughout those 24 years, and it's amazing to think how much the game has changed in those years...

Dario Gradi is to leave his post as manager of Crewe after 24 years - and become the League One club's technical director.

Gradi, 65, is the longest-serving boss in the Football League, having taken over at Gresty Road in June 1983, and has been in charge of more than 1,200 games for the Railwaymen.

The move is part of a summer shake-up at the club, which will see Neil Baker continue as assistant manager and academy manager Steve Holland appointed as first-team coach.

A club statement read: "Dario will be responsible to the board for all the club's football activities, including the first team.

"Steve Holland will play a pivotal role in the training, team selection and management of the first team playing squad."

Terrific manager at both Wimbledon, and of course most famously at Crewe. Not only has he un-earthed a host of talent that's gone on to bigger things, but his achievements at Crewe, considering what awesome under-achievers they traditionally were, is nothing short of remarkable. From a 'floater' when he arrived to their longest spell in the second flight. Great guy.
