Re: anyone watching cricket?

Thankfully Pietersons sorting them out now.

Most of the time we are one down for not alot with having Vaughn in the team. As great a captain he is, he surely has to go.

Re: anyone watching cricket?

Anyone watch the Windies last night. It looked as if they couldn't care less and the body language was dreadful. Chris Gayle bowling his slow off spin from three paces managed to "no ball" twice in an over and when the partnership between Jayasurya and Jayawardena was finally broken there didn't seem to be much emotion shown at all.

I don't know what the problem there is, but they sure do have one.

Re: anyone watching cricket?

I'm not quite sure why, but this World Cup is a disaster - the most soulless cricket world cup ever

Of course , the Woolmer tragedy is part of the reason, but even before then it was not shaping up well.

Think the ticket prices have been a major factor. A lot of the games have been played to 1/4-full stadiums...

I didn't watch the Windies batting as I'd had enough of their turgid performance whilst in the field but I would like to have seen Lara losing his wicket as you don't often see a batsman stumped off a fast bowler

Chris gayle has looked so uninterested, if I had been Lara I would 've dropped him. God he looked bored!

Luckily for you. I missed the fielding but watched the batting. 17 overs at one point without a boundary, and that needing over 7 an over. Tedious stuff.

I read Lara has blamed it on the schedule of having to play 4 games in ten days. Good job it isn't test cricket then, with five consecutive days!

Re: anyone watching cricket?

Judging from the Windies performance against India () in the one day series last year, I thought they'd go pretty far in the World Cup on home soil. Their team is a good mix of youth and experience and they seemed to be well gelled. There's something not quite right about the way they've played.

Re: anyone watching cricket?

Hello everyone, first post

Just thought I would say how much I had enjoyed this WC (the woolmer incident aside, RIP). WI have been dissapointing, its a shame for the hosts to underperform so much, but look on the bright side. So far this WC:

6 sixes in an over
18 sixes in a match (twice!)
4 wickets in 4 balls
Highest ever WC total (India's 413)
The two fastest ever 50s (20 and 21 balls!)
The fastest ever WC century (66 balls)
And one of the biggest ever upsets in IRE v PAK

Course there are small boundaries and some not so good teams which explain most of the above, but there have been some good moments, and the best cricket is yet to come, I hope

Re: anyone watching cricket?

Think Bell was very unlucky as i don't think the bowler got a touch on the ball.

Replays have shown he's bat hit the floor well before the ball hit the wicket anyway.

Re: anyone watching cricket?

Can anyone work out what Vaughan is doing in the West Indies. Perhaps he's on holiday because he's certainly not playing cricket.

He has been a total waste of time - can't bat, taken just 1 wicket in the Super 8 - he's just baggage.

Our opening batsmen are a joke in general.

Cheers,

Nigel

Re: anyone watching cricket?

Hats off to Nixon and Bopara - they were magnificent - put our so called openers to shame.

Vaughan should do the decent thing and go home.

Didn't like that 'cheating' failed release by Fernando.

A nail biting finish.

Cheers,

Nigel

People play good, people play bad .... its swings and roundabouts. Just one question, where did Vaughan "swing" in an ODI?

GO HOME! Stick to tests. 0 for 3 balls .... another pathetic score.

Luckily for us, he ain't leading by example.

On the other hand, WHAT A GAME!? Fantastic!

edit: Bopara, man of the match, very well deserved - although Nixon ..... er.... ummm .... hehe

Failed release should IMHO be called a no-ball. Total gamesmanship that.

Fantastic game - this is always the time when you think about our wides and no-balls.

Due to management heavy handed stupidity earlier on in the tour this move is now impossible: Drop Vaughan, hand captaincy to Flintoff and play Strauss.

Can't claim to know the rules of cricket in depth - I must admit I punched the air when Fernando failed to release as I assumed that it was a 'no-ball'.

I'm sure it was all above board (I've got a lot of respect for the umpires) but it was a pretty cheeky given the circumstances and 'just not cricket' (as they say).

Cheers,

Nigel

Re: anyone watching cricket?

Can't honestly believe people digging out our best and most inventive captain in years, who has been out for how long(?) with injury...

He's by far and away the best leader that we have, in both forms of the game.

Have to agree about the no-release, you can see the look on his face when he's walking back past the umpire - looks like a cheeky kid who's just got away with something.

Vaughan wasn't out, pretty certain Bell was hard done by too, and what is it with Sri Lankans and their dodgy bowling actions?

Yep, when I first saw Malinga 'bowl' I thought "surely he must be throwing not bowling!"

but, it obviously is within limits - just looks really marginal to me.

Tabloid mentality I'm afraid.

I would have rather seen Mal Loye opening the batting with Vaughan going in at number three but I'm unlikely to get my way as Loye wasn't even picked for the squad.

Vaughan was very unlucky as I don't think he touched that ball either. Bell may have been unlucky but he seems to be a disaster waiting to happen anyway and had already survived a couple of runouts. I think that he must have learned his calling and running between the wickets from Geoff Boycott.

Is that the same Flintoff that managed a couple of streaky singles yesterday before giving his wicket away in a moment of sheer stupidity
