Nick Heidfeld to tackle the Nurburgring

On Saturday 28th April 2007, Nick Heidfeld will be the first driver (in 31 years) to drive a F1 car round the famous old circuit.

It's about time, and having been driven round the Nurburgring in a BMW M5 last year I know how exciting the track is, but in a F1 car.................WOW!!!

Let's hope that this event is recorded and made available online.

That will be awesome. I can imagine Clarkson & Co. wanting to have a go at that. Well, maybe not Captain Slow...

I reckon we should have an AV Forums sweepstake on his best time.

Re: Nick Heidfeld to tackle the Nurburgring

It's difficult to know how quick Nick will be, but I think 6min 20 secs is about right.

I wonder if he's been round the track before, and knows it well.

I've driven round it and you can't believe how long it takes to get round.
It took me about 20 mins to complete a lap (as I had to slow down and let faster cars past). This was in a 2.0 petrol Ford Focus.

Next year I'm buying a Ford Focus ST and will be going back to the track!

Re: Nick Heidfeld to tackle the Nurburgring

Yeah, it was just a publicity thing/photo op.

No full-pelt laps, not even close, in fact I think he almost came to a stop on a few occasions in front of spectators to let them take pics !

The set up of the car was more geared to safety than speed. Amongst other things the suspension was raised and it ran on "demo" tyres. Heidfeld was also under strict instructions to be very careful.

He still seemed to enjoy himself though !

To Soundstyle or anyone else: how much is the ride in the Ring Taxi ?

If I remember correctly it was 180 Euros for one lap (which isn't cheap), but if you split it three ways it isn't too bad.
The speed we were doing through some of the bends was crazy.
Well worth doing, if it is only the once.
I'm buying a Ford Focus ST next year, so I am looking forward to going back.
It's the most excitement I've had.
The atmosphere is great.
