FA cup semi final draw

Well, I wish I'd gone down the bookies! I got the draw exactly right, as predicted yesterday to the missus and brother, it's Utd v Watford, Chelsea or Spurs v Blackburn. Practically guaranteeing their 'dream final'.

That being Utd vs Chelsea or Spurs. Oh GOOD!

Yep, Chelsea v Middlesbrough or Watford final would be great.

Sure, you could say Spurs and Boro had their best chance weekend just gone, but the romanticist in me is still dreaming of 2 upsets

Boro are out. Unless Fergie plays a 'B' team. Which at this stage, at Old Trafford, isn't going to happen. Spurs beating Chelsea is hardly an 'upset'. Besides Spurs (8 times FA cup winners) reaching the final is hardly a relief from the big clubs is it?

Still, you live and hope. Blackburn v Watford would be a refreshing change. However, recent form suggests we won't be seeing any underdog victories, either in the S/F and definitely not the Final. Since we haven't had a true underdog win since 1988 that is................

LFC, you're right, you need to be a bit of romanticist at times, and I'd be happy (ecstatic) to eat humble pie if Boro end up playing Watford and Blackburn go all the way.

However, I feel I'll be 'pieless' in a fortnight.

Re: FA cup semi final draw

Ahh, not quite. The romanticist in me would like to see a underdog vs Utd/Chel$ki final, then for the underdog to win. with a glorious new Wembley to boot, the FA Cup may well finally be back in the big time

(BTW, my initial '' was 'cos you missed out Boro!)

Re: FA cup semi final draw

Fricking everyone is excited about Wembley! They are selling tickets to U21 Engerland vs Azzuri for 60k of the 90k capacity for £10 and the website has crashed for the last few hours. I was hoping not to join the Englerland fan club and get the tickets on general sale.

Let's hope....

Well, I would agree, but I just can't see an underdog winning it anymore. The big clubs have too much money, err, pride at stake.

On the second point, I know!

Blimey, your lecturers must just love you!

Well I'm kinda lost in a see of 1000 and a bit students on the course but my mates can't stand me moaning about my poor contract mark. 78

I always go on with myself because I'm paranoid people will get the hump. Saying that maybe I shouldn't care about upsetting some one who can't stand the Reds, calls his home "Murkeyside", yet still lives there!

Re: FA cup semi final draw

It happens to the best of us!

So I've been browsing The Times and Guardian online. Don't need to read the tabloids, we all know their stance Why are the press calling a potential Chel$ki vs Utd match-up the "dream final", when many (at least on here), want at least one other team to make it; Spurs, Boro, Blackburn, Watford.

Neither can half of Merseyside - the Blue half! Murkeyside is an expression I picked up off the locals when I first moved up here. I live here cos' it's cheap, and the locals are friendly. Anything else?

I think that takes us back to the original point really......... 'They' want that final hence *cough* it was drawn that way.

@Scouser_SL

Ermm... it would be a great final for the neutrals to see two great teams at it against each other. And who knows, maybe the two managers will have fun in the tabloids like in the Mickey Mouse cup final (which we won last year LOL)

Unfortunately the 'top team' finals are rarely any good. Only Arsenal v Liverpool in 2001 bucked the trend. Liverpool v Utd in 96' was the worst final ever, Arsenal v Utd in 2005 wasn't far off. The pressure, the hype, and the occasion get to the teams even more than a 'normal' cup final. Chelsea v Utd isn't likely to buck the trend. 90 minutes of 'let's not concede' there. *yawn* Nor is Spurs v Utd. The latter, with Spurs record against Utd, with Utd finding them out every time, would be a one way joke.

Speaking as a 'neutral', neither of those has any appeal.

Re: FA cup semi final draw

Absolutely. Of all the "big games" this season, only Spurs vs Chel$ki has lived up to the billing. Only because Spurs absolutely hate the precious Kensington lot and go for it though. I think people have mellowed too much. The Murkeyside derby is boring. Playing the team down East Lancs Road is boring. Utd and Arsenal have lost the past spark

Only because recent form in the FA cup has suggested that will be the case. Spurs need something to show for their season, Chelsea never give up on anything these days, and as such it is hard to see a Blackburn victory. Plus (as intended) your boys are a tough side, and as such will give the eventual winners of the Spurs V Chelsea game a hard time, softening them up nicely for Utd. Not that I would ever insinuate that the FA have an agenda................

Oh, and LFC, with you all the way with that last post m8.
