Haha, should be fun seeing Ronaldo v's Ronaldo though. We have match tickets, taking our 10 year old. Bought them ages ago when it was announced so managed to get seats in the first tier just by the half way line

Re: United Vs Europe XI

couldn't have come at a worse time for Utd. Cup replays, Champer league etc - not what was wanted with the injury list building up.

personally think this will end up as a bit of a training session as no-one will want to dive into tackles etc incase of injury.

You're not wrong about the bad timing, pointless flipping fixture when there are more important games coming up.

What a pointless game.

I hope Fergie doesn't moan about the fixtures over the coming weeks.

Still cracking free kick by Ronaldo...I assume it will count towards my dream team points.

Re: United Vs Europe XI

it's a shame that some of the truly great players, ronaldo, beckham, ronaldinho, casillas couldn't make it, but as a United fan i have to say it's been pretty enjoyable so far

That free kick was on a par with the tournoi de france one from Carlos

Re: United Vs Europe XI

It's hardly a pointless game, it's about raising money for charity. I don't think 45 minutes of light football is going to tire a professional footballer out too much, if it does then they shouldn't be playing football at all.

Still, nice too see a couple of Pompey players playing, even though Cole is past it.

Re: United Vs Europe XI

The whole game was on live on RTE in Ireland.

Don't waste your time watching it - total joke. I realise it was for charity, but pointless to watch.

With the pull-outs/subs it make a mockery of it - at the end the Europe XI had Campo, Diouf, Stelios, Carragher, Zenden, Gerrard, Fowler in it - it was more like Utd reserves v bums from the EPL.

The fact that all the players mentioned above all live within easy driving distance of Manchester shows that they must really have been struggling for players - it was probably like a Saturday morning pub match at 4pm today - ringing round guys asking can they play !!

Re: United Vs Europe XI

Just back from Old Trafford - thoroughly enjoyed it. Great atmosphere. 74000 people who all bought tickets for charity - hardly a pointless exercise.

It also gave my 10 year old lad a chance to see players that he dreams about.

Great reception for Beckham at half time not sure if they showed his speech on the tv coverage.

A shame a few players pulled out, but can't complain as the ticket prices were great.

At the end of the day, the players gave their time to support a charity and should be commended for that no matter what their country of origin.

Well to your son I am sure it was good, but I have seen a lot of world 'stars' live over the years in competitive games, so this one would not have appealed to me.

I realise that it did raise a lot of money for charity, but it was a shame to see the Liverpool players booed. They gave up their time free of charge but still the fans felt necessary to boo them. Sad considering when they pull on the England jersey they are cheered. Footnall fans, eh?

Absolutely agree, I was pretty appalled by that - felt really sorry for him, Jamie Carrager and Robbie Fowler. I have to say it wasn't the whole ground that were doing the booing, just a some of the "fans"....

Yeah but thing is its the design of the modern ball that allows this to happen, not necessarily the ability of the player.

Modern balls have been changed in recent years to move int he air making it more difficult for keepers and to create more goals. Its all a conspiracy by FIFA to convince us that the modern game is great and that the modern footballer has more skill and ability than the old ones.

My opinion.

Re: United Vs Europe XI

LOL!
Na its just a secret.
What him and Roberto Carlos do is they always pick the ball up before they take the free kick, and place it so they kick the part of the ball which you put the pump-needle-thing-in, so it creates max swerve.

Shooosh! Don't tell Chelsea...
