Parking at Old Trafford - match day?

Hi all,

I'm taking my son to see the United v's UEFA 11 on Tuesday night - just wondered if anybody had any pointers on the ease or difficulty of parking at the ground and how long before the match to be there for to ensure we get parked.

Never been to Old Trafford before so any help would be most appreciated.

Cheers,

Kieron

I'm driving from Blackpool though, so I'd rather go straight to the ground. My son's only 10 also so don't really fancy trying to get back to a car via a tram along with 60 thousand other supporters.

Thanks for the info though.

Re: Parking at Old Trafford - match day?

You can buy matchday car parking at £8.00 so your spot will be designated: http://www.manutd.com/default.sps?pagegid={6C4EE71C-0DF0-4B7E-AECC-E73C241A6DDB}
Read the bottom bit

Best to phone them personally though

Re: Parking at Old Trafford - match day?

Get your A-Z/Tom Tom out, look for Seymour Grove(10 mins from ground),park up an hour before and go to the chippy(Red Dragon)for tea.It is on the other side from where your coming from but I parked there for years without a problem. When going home you go straight down Chester Rd on to the M602.You could park on the Stretford side but Im not too sure of anywhere.Another place to try is Ordsall Lane but again get there early,it just of the bottom of the M602(Regent Rd).There are a few industrial estate car parks on Ordsall Lane that charge(not sure how much) but may get full fairly quick.

I use the Old Trafford Cricket Grounds carpark . Only a 5 minute stroll to the ground from there , and quick to get away from afterwards down the back roads . IIRC its about £6 , might be £8 though

Another vote here for the cricket ground

Took my old man to see UTD play, we left 5 mins from the end (they were winning 4-0), legged it back to the car and saved an hour getting through traffic.

Re: Parking at Old Trafford - match day?

Yep ,
I tend to park right in the south west corner , at the exit next to B&Q . Walk through the carpark and past the cricket ground , the loos are open should you need to use them and you can walk up the steps to look at the cricket ground . Walk along Warwick Road , cross the A56 and then your into Sir Matt Busby Way . Plenty of outlets to get some food on the way to the ground and lots of stalls selling merchandise . The club won't be hurt as its Nike that make all the money from the Megastore and they have already stumped up anything Utd are going to get

Thanks John, I will heed your advice!

Would I be right in thinking that it will be slow going getting away from old trafford and onto the main routes?

According to multimap.com: from leaving Talbot road, then Chester road heading towards a56 then to the a556 then m6 j19.

Re: Parking at Old Trafford - match day?

Mighty,

I think you will have to grin and put up with the traffic down the A56 until you get to the M56. Once on the M56 you can either leave at junction 7 and use A556 to M16 J19. A556 is a dual carriageway and does crawl along as well.

The alternative although longer, is to stay on M56 and then then join M6 at junction 20A (Lymm). You will avoid the queues on the A556 and also won't have to queue to join M6.

South then I take it ?
A lot will also depend on what Stand you are in , The closer you are to the Stretford End the longer its going to take you to get back to your car . Quickest I have ever been out was when sitting in the East stand , encounterd very little traffic .
Come out of the Cricket Ground carpark by B&Q and turn left along Great stone road
Take the 3rd exit at the roundabout into Kings Road
Turn left into Cromwell Road follow to the end
Turn left onto the A5145 and then follow signs for the Airport

It misses out the A56 and M60 . It may still be busy though

And another tip , when you come off the M56 to get onto the A556 there is an island with a filter lane. Most traffic takes the filter , and its a massive Q just because of the volume . The right hand lane is usually empty and you can cruise right up to the island and turn left onto the A556 quite legally and with no problems . The same again with the M6 junction , ignore the filter lane and go to the main island. Its a bit hard to explain , but if you zoom in with google earth, its a bit clearer

Re: Parking at Old Trafford - match day?

hi looks like you have this sorted another possibility is that you could get the wife to drive park in manchester while she shops then catch the metrolink tram in the centre of manc to old trafford more atmospheric and you have the added bonus of a half time pint as the wife is driving

If the wife goes shopping you won't be able to afford a half time pint
