Australian Open Tennis 2007

Managed to catch the Safin vs Becker match and it was very good.

BTW, it is on BBCi from 8.30am-1.30pm.

Just looking at the times, and it looks like we'll miss the Finals, unless BBC put it on some time delay.

Re: Australian Open Tennis 2007

No participants.

"You probably get one chance to win a match in your lifetime 6-0 6-0 6-0. I wanted to win love, love and love but let it slip a little bit."
Andy Murray sees his chance to record a rare "triple bagel" undone in Melbourne.

Good win for Murray I think. Sharapova was a bit shakey today, but it was hot...

I'd like to see Ana Ivanovic do well. The further they stay in, the more chance of an upskirt pic in the papers.

Well Murray is doing well.
And Mauresmo just lost So looks like Sharapova could win the title?

Re: Australian Open Tennis 2007

A great match of tennis going on right now; Murray vs Nadal 2-2 sets all so far

Edit: Nadal has broken 0-2 in final set. Oh well

Re: Australian Open Tennis 2007

he had nadal on the ropes early - great fight back from nadal and then murray took it back to him again - shame - a bit of a crumble in the final set but great stuff - nearly 4 hours and finished @ 1am local time

Re: Australian Open Tennis 2007

Great game! What a game! I really enjoyed this, and some of the shots were wicked especially when there were so many drop shots in one rally.

Murray have 5 break points in the last set!

And in the second set, 4-0 up I think, or 4-1 and he loses it!
Anyway, great match, lets hope the Federer vs Nadal final is better than last years SW19 final.

And as for ladies, Sharapova through again, and Clijsters vs Hingis is the big game

Re: Australian Open Tennis 2007

Murray was really unlucky today. Needs to work on his fitness but at times he had Nadal completely flummoxed.

Maria is doing ok. Nothing special just ok. I've been a fan of her for over 4 years, and I've seen her play much better.

Was hoping for a Fed - Murray final, he would have had a real shot of making it there if he had taken advantage of some of those break points against Nadal!!

I think he really is up there now alongside Davydenko, Blake, Ljubicic and still getting better

Cant see anything but Maria & Fed winning the finals

WRONG Maria got whupped 6-1 6-2 !

If Serena williams is on form she can destroy any other woman and probably a few men people always write her and her sister off but basically they are different class when they are fit, thats how they can be out for ages and just walk back in and win again. Sharapova looked like she had been hit by a Truck!

FED should be a shoe in

She lost!

She really struggled with Serena's serves and power! Serena was definately next level! Sharapova wasn't playing well at all really.. her flowery dress was pretty though

Luckily I didn't stay up to watch this! Just caught the highlgihts on the last Grandstand!

Anyway, why wasn't Venus playing in this Open?

Re: Australian Open Tennis 2007

I didn't see the women's match, but I'm really surprised that Serena has managed to get back. I saw some pictures of her about 18 months ago and she was well overwight and didn't seem interested in dedicating herself to the game ... I thought she was going into fashion designing or something! ... fair play to her!

Re: Australian Open Tennis 2007

Came in from a night out last night about 3pm and the game was just starting. i thought I'd just watch a couple of the opening games but ended up watching it. Man it was a great game and Serena took her apart from the first point. It wasn't even close and to be honest Serena was so aggressive that Maria looked scared at times. Some of the looks Serena gave her after winning points just added to making Maria not get into her game at all. Though it was one sided it was a good final just from the point of view of seeing Serena come back to her best form.

PS I heard that Venus is studying (maybe she doing a Uni course as I've heard both sister wanted to get their degrees)

Re: Australian Open Tennis 2007

Federer!!!!!!!!!!! He is too good, another great final like last year. Gonzalez played well, it took time for Federer to break him down. Also how Federer covered up all his emotions till the end.

Murray is the alst guy who beat him......

Re: Australian Open Tennis 2007

Best thing about the Aussie Open was what Serena said: "I am the ultimate competitor. I feel awesome". Love her or hate her you can't deny she can play

As for the men's, it seems every tournament Federer enters is for him alone to lose. Shame Nadal seems to have hit a bit of a wall recently... hopefully he'll get it back together for the French Open
