American sport seasons

Hello,

We are currently planning a trip to San Francisco, LA and Las Vegas for the late summer (about August 21st - September 10th) and was hoping to take in an American sport of some kind.

Looking at the NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL they all seem to run their seasons from October - January with the exception of the MLB is this correct?

Just wanted to check from people who know the sports as we'd be wanting to watch either a team from San Francisco or a team from LA play. Looking most likely at the moment with LA Dodgers playing Washington in late August.

...Further to this, anyone know the best way of getting tickets and is it wise to book as early as possible/do they sell out?

Any help is great,

Thanks,

Tom

Re: American sport seasons

Why not go and watch Beckham play for LA Galaxy - they play matches in August and September.

I read that LA Galaxy are cashing in though by making fans commit to 3 games, when they only want one.

I can watch football here, I am interested in competitive high level sports that you can't easily see over here.

Re: American sport seasons

I went to see San Francisco Giants 6 years ago just after the new AT&T park stadium opened: http://sanfrancisco.giants.mlb.com/N...park/index.jsp

It's a great stadium for baseball cos of the splash zone (1 side of the diamond opens out on to San Francisco Bay), however the day I went there wasn't a single home run so was pretty disappointing . Been to basketball too (pretty boring ) & Ice Hockey - (great ). Not done American Football yet but one day..........

ps. Dodgers Stadium looks great, have always wanted to go there - Pasadena Rose Bowl just outside LA is well worth a visit even if there's nothing on - huge place & venue of the greatest concert of all time.

Re: American sport seasons

when i went to new york and fancied seeing a yankees game i think i used ticketmaster or the yankees website to book tickets. can;t actually remember.

best thing to do is check the teams website (dodgers etc) and they will have a schedule on there for their games and then just follow the links to book tickets.

also check the main sports sites for each sport. Also that time of year you might be able to get access to some of the preseason games (maybe NFL etc) that might be cheaper and easier to get tickets for

Re: American sport seasons

I'd reccommend Ticketmaster for your tickets as well. I've used them a couple of times for ice hockey tickets and never had any problems.

Looking at your timing for the holiday it is only going to be baseball you can see. Shame SF are only playing Washington during your trip they're not the most exciting team in the world. LA dodgers would be a better bet for your game.
