Lloyd v Barneveld

Anyone who thinks darts is rubbish - I hope you were watching last night. Probably the greatest 7 set game I've ever seen. & Taylor wasn't even playing!!

Barney 3-0 sets down, comes back to 3-3.

3-3 on legs in the final set, you now need to win by 2 clear legs, goes to 5-5, now it's nearest the bull in a sudden death final leg & Barney pulls it off.

Re: Lloyd v Barneveld

Just watch the repeat of this match,Fantastic!

I had stopped watching at 2-0, just kept flicking back expecting to it completed but as soon as I saw it going back to Barney I couldnt turn away.

Lloyd will be kicking himself, two shots at double tops for the match and missed them both

Re: Lloyd v Barneveld

Did anyone see this last night? What's it all about? Surely Taylor has been sworn at before......

POWER RAGES AFTER MASON TAUNTS

Taylor and Mason: Moment of controversy

Phil Taylor has threatened to walk out of the sport after an unsavoury victory over Chris Mason in the Ladbrokes.com World Championship.
‘The Power’ blew away his opponent in four sets to move into the tournament’s quarter-finals.
The match had taken on an extra edge after reports in the press suggesting ‘Mace The Ace’ had accused the 13-time world champion of arrogance.
There was little eye contact until the end of the match, but the pair argued at the end when leaving the stage, and Taylor raged against his opponent soon after.
“It’s nasty and it’s not nice. During the match he was arguing with the crowd it’s not nice,” Taylor told Sky Sports 1.
“At the end he effed and blinded at me when he shook my hand. I don’t like it, there’s no need for it.
“I can walk away. I’m not going to listen to filth when I’m trying my hardest. I put a lot of work into this I put eighteen years of my life into this to be talked to like a piece of dirt.”
Taylor had a piece of advice for Mason, who but for his emotions, is one of the best players not to win a major title.
“I’ve had it for years off the players, they don’t know what they’re doing wrong and they’re blaming me for their mistakes,” he added.
“I’m just good at what I do. I’m just a working-class man who has done well for himself if I want to buy myself a new car I’ll buy one. If he wants a new car he’s got to get off his backside and earn one.”

Re: Lloyd v Barneveld

The problem is, CFC, Mason totally lost it and not for the first time. His emotions are the reason he's not champion. He got spanked and couldn't take it like a man.

Taylor will not put up with that from anyone, he is the true professional.
Mas would be ill advised to try that against some of the bigger or nuttier lads who would think nothing of giving it back

Re: Lloyd v Barneveld

The guy Mason is an idiot, a very good darts player, but still an idiot. Phil Taylor isnt the most popular of all the darts players but he has to be respected as its him that draws alot of the revenue and sponsorship that allow these guys to earn a decent living.

I dont find Taylor arrogant in anyway (which seems to be Masons main gripe), or at least no more so than any sportsman at the very top of there game. Mason didnt like the fact he couldnt live with Taylor and like Mylo said couldnt take it like a man. Sadly he thought this before the match which is why he had his little rant at Taylor and killed off what could have been a good match

Re: Lloyd v Barneveld

Taylor is just a "tungsten genious" to get all Sid waddell about it I do think that to get to be the best in any sport you have to have some arrogance about you. These true champions are not arrogant because they are the best, they are the best because they are arrogant and self-centred enough to want to be the best. Hope that makes sense !!!
Having said that, Taylor always seems very gracious, polite and a thoroughly decent chap who's got where he is by hard work. Mason was well out of order and should be punished for it. I wonder if he realises what a pratt he made of himself ?

I know what you mean, he gets worse every year. It must be a nightmare to get his microphone level right as he goes from a barely audible whisper to a full scale shout every other sentence

I know there's tremendous pressure in those circumstances, but I can't believe how Taylor lost his way so badly in the final set.

Why can't you believe it? Barneveld is a great darts player,a legand, capable of beating anyone, its the final of the biggest tournement in darts. Pressure can do anything to anyone. Taylor's average was still above the one hundred (102). I do think Barney winning the throw first helped. Also i think it was more down to the fact Barney but him under pressure, normally its the overway round, by coming back from 3-0 sets down.

Great final, its about time someone stopped the mighty Taylor, its good to see and will only benefit the sport, if it is a sport

After taylor went 3 sets up he could hit no more treble nineteen cover shots and took to many of them on imo.It must upset your rythem going from treble twenty to treble nineteen surely.

Thats what I thought.
Also, his average score plummeted. I think he had averaged around 110 in the competition so far, but after the first 3 sets he dropped to around 90ish.
If you look at the stats you can see that Barny never upped his average by much. It was Phils that came down.

Great match though.

The final was the best possible advert for darts, I'm sure even the most loyal Taylor fans had to appreciate Barney's comeback from 3 down.
(Also wasn't it the best tournament so far for Top Tottie in the crowd? )

I think maybe that they should not show the crowd so much between throws as everyone's reaction seems to be to wave and cheer, which can't be good for the next person to throw !

great final - good advert for how players in any sport should conduct themselves during a match/game.
