I'm watching the ashes 3rd test

Right, second day just started and I'm going to watch the rest of the England innings
I predict it'll last about 3 hours
I don't believe this, I'm sat with a thin jumper on about 2ft from a half open window and I'm not cold.
The heating has been off for about 2 hours
Is this global warming that bad?
Sorry, I digress.

Strauss gone.
That was never out by the eye, although in all fairness I heard a nick.
Makes up for McGrath yesterday, I guess.
Totally reckless batting, IMO

Re: I'm watching the ashes 3rd test

122-6
We're horrendous, batting wise.
Panasar got 5, they haven't even called on Warne yet
God, what are we teaching our players?
The batting is kamakaze at best.
Slog it, seems to be the mantra, I've seen better at school and that was 30 years ago.
As for the speed of the bowlers, I thought they (Lilee and Thompson) were nudging 100mph yonks ago

As for the commentators trying to defend the batsmen, it's just a joke.
We're crap, simple.
And in one way it's funny
If I was an aussie, I'd be wetting myself laughing.

Hi Badger,

Six posts later and you finally get a response. I thought you were going to post back and forth to yourself all day at that rate Only kidding.

Anyway, been keeping up to date with the cricket myself and good to see that England managed to restrict Australia to a low score, although they didn't manage to follow up with the advantage and ended up getting all out themselves for less! Australia are now in the driving seat to hopefully post a large total and wrap the series up.

Re: I'm watching the ashes 3rd test

I fell asleep after that post
I watched the highlights not long ago

We've had it mate.
I now predict a whitewash.
We can't bat to save our lives, IMO.
As bad as it sounds, I wish we had a grinder like Boycott, who could anchor an innings.
Move Monty up to no 8, too.

The annoying part is, after whipping the aussies out pretty quick, I knew what would happen.
The aussies will now rack up a big score and then declare.
And we may get a draw, if we're lucky.
I'm guessing the wicket will die with the heat.

Fletcher will get the bullet, IMO.

Well I actually want Australia to win out the ashes (I'm aussie), but to be honest was hoping for a more exciting and competitive series

Re: I'm watching the ashes 3rd test

@ Paul Gilmour

Yeah, fair go (you didn't know I could speak aussie did ya? )
I guessed you were Australian mate

Now tell the truth, you meant you wanted to see a game, right?
Our technique is horrendous.
I don't understand it, on paper we ought to be whupping your old fogeys.
I'm sure it's a mental thing.

I expected it to be close, but it's laughable.
I'll watch again tonight but I'm not expecting much

Good luck mate, although you don't need it, the ashes are in the bag

I might post some more moaning on here later, when the game has started and the Stella kicks in.
Feel free to gloat and reply, if I do

Yeah, thanks mate. I'm off to bed too and looking forward to the 3rd day of pommy bashing in the field Unfortunately I have work tomorrow afternoon so can't get

What I would love to see is a sort of charity match of the old folgeys (re-union) from the big stars on the 1980s. Like Allan Border team, Steve Waugh, Merv Hughes, David Boon, Stuart Law... would that be amusing.

That was played at the WACA the day before the Test started as David Lloyd mentioned having played in it. The great Dennis Lillee was still steaming in at 61

Re: I'm watching the ashes 3rd test

No

Shame - great speel of batting.

In early 90's I saw "old" England v "old" Australia at the WACA. Its was basically the Centinery test sides of 77 (I think).

First over - bowled Lilee, caught Marsh - what a cheer went up!

I'm in between contracts, so no work ATM.

It was academic anyway, the missus was tired, so I thought I'd watch it upstairs. I lasted about 10 mins.

Woke up about 6 oclock, so managed to see Gilchrist's magnificent innings

Thoroughly depressing to see Strauss go straight out, after watching that.

The trouble is I can't see us lasting the day, let alone two.
Guessing around 250 all out

Re: I'm watching the ashes 3rd test

I'm speechless........

OK then,... How did that happen? They knock us over for 215, then score over 500 and declare the next day! As Ian J says, it just shows the gulf between them and us, as the 2nd best team in the world ...That's a joke in itself, and a terrible indictment at the state of world cricket at the moment.. indeed in the last 10 years.

It was one of those days.. the bowlers to be fair, didn't do too badly and were bashed about by some excellent batting, but for me, the bowling at Gilchrist in that mood was awful. Far too short and with seemingly no aim... I got the impression that England wanted him to get to his century so that they declared rather than trying their best to bowl them out.

The body language was abysmal. After toiling in the heat for wickets all day, Monty eventually gets Hussey out and is naturally delighted, but I couldn't believe Flintoff's reaction... he didn't bother to change his expression or offer any encouragement or congratulations to the bowler.

To top it all off, after Strauss was out, I watched in disbelief as Flintoff and Anderson, I think it was, were on the balcony, smiling and striking Saturday Night Fever poses ***.

Mates, if it was down to me, I'd send them back home to face the bleak winter like the rest of us, instead of sunning it up over there on a jolly.

I should have said it publicly before, but all along I thought Flintoff was the wrong captain for this tour. Strauss did well in the job earlier in the year and in Vaughns absence, is the best man. Flintoff is an inspirational figure when he is performing, but when he isn't, he brings nothing to the captains role. His field placements are questionable at times and he seems very reactive, rather than proactive. I think he has his favourites and these relationships are detrimental to the team. The sooner Vaughn gets back (assuming he ever does) the better.

I remember the 1976 West Indies tour and it's aptly named "Blackwash", and was there every day of the final Oval Test, but this series seems even more one-sided than that and, as I have said before.. the outcome will be the same... 5-0!
