I've never really been a fan of him, but I can't help but feel sorry for the guy..
Only a week or so ago, his new boss was quoted as saying:
"I think he is a great manager, he has done great things with West Ham. Last season was a great year and I fully believe he will help me take West Ham to the next stage. I will work very closely with him on what his desires are in the January window and going on to the next level."
Crikey!

Absolutely gutted. I think the players need to take a good hard look at themselves, some of them completely let the manager down.
A few seem to have believed their own press after what was an exceptional season and have strutted around as if they own the place... and this has been visible to a lot of us who will put up with someone lacking in basic ability, but won't put up with those that are unwilling to work for the shirt.
Alan Pardew will become a great manager, and I'd say it'll happen at a big club, I'd like to thank him for all that he's done for West Ham United, and hope that he goes on to succeed at this level, for his talents deserve it.

Yep, gotta say i wasn't a huge fan either but to sack him after saying that they'd stand by him is just typical of football these days - no loyality whatsoever.
Feel sorry for him also and as Rio says, the players have really let Pardew down.

Interesting.
It depends who they get in I suppose. If they can bring in someone world class who can attract big players and give the message "west ham are going places" then it is positive.
However, it's all up in the air at the moment isn't it.
The great shame with football clubs is that they never sack players, always managers.

How does a club that sits 18th in the table attract someone "world class" though?
There are three names currently being thrown around; Curbishley (obvious, always linked with West Ham), Sven (good friends of our new Chairman) and George Graham (has been tending to his garden for how long now?!).
Appears it may not be just football related, and more behind the scenes than meets the eye, but if I was to post what I've heard it'd only be deemed as libellous, so I think I'll refrain
What it does show however is how ruthless our new Chairman may be - if only that message would get across to a few of the players who just keep turning up for their pay packets each week...
What a season!

Good luck to Kevin Keen - who has to pick the team and motivate them for the visit of Man Utd on Sunday - you might need it mate!
Makes an interesting Sky game this Sunday anyway, it'd be typical West Ham for us to turn them over after all of this... (and an ironic Tevez winner too!).

I think I read somewhere that relegation from the Premiership, means a loss in tv revenue of around £15 million.
With that hanging over the club, it's perhaps not surprising that Pardew (and Dowie at Charlton), was sacked.
And I can't help feeling that a 'better' manager would have got more from Tevez and Mascherano, who are both class players. You can't help feeling that he'd lost control of some of the players.

You can't help feeling that he'd lost control of some of the players. | There were a few players that Pards wanted that he had to abandon in favour of Tevez and Mascherano (he was in the market for a right midfielder at the time, one we're still missing) - but the long and the short of it is that they turned up unfit, not knowing a word of English, not knowing the culture... only Tevez has shown glimpses of getting to grips with the game over here so far.
If however they upset the apple cart and a few players had a strop as a result then it's inexcusable - a player that doesn't want quality players willing to push them for their place isn't fit to wear the shirt, in my opinion.
We've had a few recently where it looks like there's a bit of a party image thing going on at the club, Shaun Newton banned, Roy Carroll in rehab, rumours of Etherington going off the rails, same with Sheringham, Benayoun twice playing for Israel when injured against club wishes....
If he had lost the dressing room in that sense, then it would appear that discipline is lacking somewhere along the line. Maybe he was too nice to them?
Who can say...

You can't help feeling that he'd lost control of some of the players. | That's no excuse really. There is no guarantee that anyone else will do better. As RIO said, how do West Ham who aren't seen as a 'big club' (no offense hammers fans) attract someone who's a 'name' to a club in 18th place?
I'm getting as sick as the managers of this 'give em' 18 months and if a miracle isn't achieved boot them out' routine. Sorry, four months these days. By this current insane logic then Sir Alex Ferguson, the most successful manager in recent history would have been elbowed halfway through his fourth season.
The current trend of revolving door management is not even related to money nebby. The managers at the lower division clubs are just as, if not even more risk that the Premiership clubs. Some clubs are getting through four or five managers in two or three years!
I think RIO's right, too many 'faces' didn't show up for work in September. They might have been there in body, but..............

From a football context, I feel sorry for Pardew. Thought he'd had a couple of good seasons - promotion, FA Cup final, European football - and then a bad start to this season. He talked a lot of sense to me.
But he'll leave with probably a years salary - around half a million quid less tax - and if he wants will pick up a new job within that year, so it's kind of hard to feel too bad for him over all.
Brace yourselves for Sven, Hammers fans.... |

And I'd expect any manager worth his salt to do his research - and if they go anywhere near the tape of the Bolton game on Saturday then, if they have any sense, won't touch this "challenge" with a barge pole...
I think all of this is a time for a few Hammers fans to have a reality check too, this is only our 2nd season back in the Premiership, we have no divine right to be there. Last season was fantastic and thoroughly enjoyable for us fans, and seemingly refreshing for neutrals.
But I've heard some West Ham fans this afternoon say "go after Lippi", "go after Scolari", etc. Sven is a bit different, it appears the relationship is already there with our new Chairman but Curbishley seems more in line with reality.
So, a newsflash - our most expensive player was last seen plying his trade at Carrow Road and our captain not so long ago used to play at a hockey stadium.
This isn't really Big Phil territory, is it?
And Overkill, I have to say I agree completely - the players get away scot-free whilst they strut around with dodgy attitudes, it's only ever going to be one person that carries the can. This is always likely to happen when the people in charge of them are earning an awful lot less than they are...

Also feel very sorry for Pardew.
He did well for the Hammers over the last couple of years - I know recent form has been poor, but as has been said, the players need to look at themselves. Unfortunately you don't sack players, but the manager.
This fella who took over was probably always going to have a 'big name' manager in mind I think. I would not be the least bit surprised to see Sven get the job.
Good luck to Pardew in his hunt for a new job - I'm sure he will do well wherever he goes next.

If I were a Hammers fan I wouldn't want to see Sven there, I'd prefer Curbishley any day. I expect West Ham to play attacking and exciting football like they always have over the years and I think Sven would kill that.
