Forest

Hoping that there is no upset today and I get to see an entertaining game of football.

Re: Forest

Embarrassing seing what level they have sunk to if you can remember the Forest of the late 70/early 80's.

Funny, that's what I thought! They had complete control of the game by half time, then by about 20 minutes of the 2nd half there was only one team looking likely winners. And they were in white! Should be an easy task at the city ground though. The minnows need to win the first game or it's usually curtains in the replay.

I'm not going to go there, I saw them at Chester last year in the FA cup and this was a vast improvement, we lost 3-0.

I'm sure 70% at this level is belief/confidence & its always a no win when you play non league as the expectation for them is non existentant.

Re: Forest

Well the same players are 200% better now than there were under Megson so he must have been doing something really wrong !
When I remember back to the good old days of beating Celtic, knocking Liverpool out of the European Cup (inthe days when it was a proper cup!) and winning back to back European Cups I just get depressed about the current situation Those great old Wednesday night European matches stood in the Trent End are still a great memory to have though

........I shouldn't say this I know, but forest was a really good place to win in those days. It happened pretty rarely, as that side made the City ground a real fortress, and the crowds, while not as big as the likes of Liverpool, Utd etc still made a lot of noise!

The FA cup win there in 79' is one of my great football memories. A terrific 'backs to the wall' performance against a quality side in the days when the FA cup really meant something, as it was a fag paper away from the leauge in terms of importance.

That memory in itself shows just how great Forest were. None of us thought we'd pull it off..........

Re: Forest

Those were the days when I could happily watch Forest without having to get a gallon of ale down my neck first to numb the pain I can't bring myself to sit and watch Forest playing Salisbury or Accrington Stanley

I felt like that watching mid 90's Arsenal, John. I'm sorry, but unlike some 'other' fans I don't subscribe to the 'winning is all that matters' ethos. We won three trophies in three seasons, but I would rather have seen some football (period) frankly. Every single time we won anything was forgettable. Even the 94' win, which laid the ghost of 80', was such a poor display I switched off (mentally) for 20 minutes and read a book!

It must be agony for Forest fans, not only the success in those days, but the way it was achieved, set a benchmark that post Cloughie it's been impossible (thus far) to emulate.
