Talking Man Utd Nakad

Celtic got the win by the skin of their teeth. What a goal by Nakamura.

Got the impression Man Utd were just going through the motions at times. If they have that attitude against Chelsea they will be buried. Got the impression that Man Utd believed all their own press coverage.

Battered them in the first half, mediocre second half, great free-kick which should never have been given in the first place, Saha has no bottle......we'll still top the group though....but well done to the sweatys

I thought Celtic in the first half were too frightened of Man Utd. I got the impression that Strachan got his team selection wrong to begin with. He more or less surrendered to Man Utd in the first half. I still believe Man Utd are a far better side than Celtic, but I don't see them being involved further than the quarters on that performance.

Re: Man Utd Nakad

I found Lennon saying after the game that the Penalty decision was "Crazy" SO ironic. Anyway, since when did Saha become our #1 Peno kick taker? I saw him take one a few weeks back, but didn't think he'd be taking them all the time now. It's not like Ronaldo missed any.

On a side note: David Pleat is a complete and utter tool.

Celtic are through to the next round irrelevant of the result in the next game. Celtic have a better head to head than Man Utd due to the two away goals. Man Utd need a draw against Benfica.

Re: Man Utd Nakad

That goes for the whole game and y i stress the reason we need a fourth striker in January as i feel if Ole would have been fit Saha would have been taken off earlier and maybe Rooney should have taken the spot kick.
As for the game thought we controlled most of it but with no end product not to get on Saha,s case here but he cost us the game not once but twice tonight, and looked heavy legged all game and what he was thinking when he was one on one with Boruc i dont know...as for Celtic thought all the luck that went against them over the years they got a little back with the free kick which imho was never a foul but have to say it was a quality qualty strike from that distance.
Why penalty takers dont just blast it down the middle very late on in high tension games ill never know as the keeper is always going to dive one way or the other.

So looks like we are in for a very sweaty tense game at OT with Benfica which they can still qualify from and if the worse comes to the worse you have to look at the Copehagen game and tonights game as where maybe it all went wrong.

Gutted here but lets hope we can beat Benfica and hopefully top the group.

*** Utd never you do it the easy way!!

Re: Man Utd Nakad

Have the Bhoys qualified? Even if they lose last game.

Man U beat Benfica. Celtic and Man U qualify.

Man U and Benfica draw. Celtic and Man U qualify.

Benfica beat Man U. Celtic and Benfica qualify.
Both Celtic and Man U have 9 points.
In games between Celtic and Man U
Both teams have equal goal difference.
Celtic has has scored more away goals (2 at Old Traford) and therefore qualify.

Re: Man Utd Nakad

I thought the game was refreshingly absent of diving and play acting................. except the "foul" that led to the Celtic goal.
Even though I wanted Celtic to win (more so they could qualify - rather than any anti-Man U feelings) the penalty was cast iron and the freekick decision was dubious at best.

But the noise of those fans - they deserved it on that alone.

Man U should get the point they need - they should've beaten Copenhagen then they wouldn't needed to have worry and Celtic would be sweating.

Re: Man Utd Nakad

I do think United dominated this game and were unlucky that the free kick was given which lead to the Celtic goal. I think Saha stopped because he thought he was offside and that's why he missed that sitter. It was obvious that he was going to miss that penalty, both me and my mate remarked that he would miss it and someone else should have taken it.
In the first half I reckon the Celtic crowd was fairly quiet (apart form the 1st 10 minutes) and United really had the upper hand.

Wasn't really a good game. Utd should have made more of the possession. But that's how footy goes. I think they'll (Utd) will still qualify out if the group though.

I agree Jarosik dived for the free-kick but Scholes also dived for the free-kick that lead to Man Utd's penalty.

What about Giggs dive at Old Trafford for the penalty in the previous match between the teams.

Annoying thing about the Scholes one, we didn't even see a replay.

Oh and yeah, Giggs's "dive" at Old Trafford that forced an injury onto him?

Re: Man Utd Nakad

I'm a Celtic man through and through, and have to admit (could hardly deny it, could I?) that Man Utd. played us off the park for most of the game but, football is all about putting the ball in the back of the net, which we did (beautifully, I might add - Nakamura, what a free kick taker) and Man U didn't - game over!

It's about time we had a bit of luck in a European game - normally the opposition get all the decisions but we got the important one last night, the "free kick" was no more a free kick than Giggs' "penalty" at Old Trafford was a penalty.

By the way, why do people keep saying that Saha missed the penalty? That ball was net-bound all the way - Boruc saved it - give the man credit.

C'MON THE CELTS!!

Cheers, (loud ones)

Martin.

Martin.
because he didn't put it into the net (aka - he missed it).
To be fair, it was a pretty poor penalty (considering he is a top premiership player), but it was a decent save.

What got on my wick though was the amount of time it took for the celtic players to actually stay outside of the box when the kick was gonna be taken. IMO, players should be booked for that (holding up a penalty or free kick by being too close to the ball). The same with goalies taking ages to get into their position when a kick is about to be taken.

On another topic - I think sometimes players just can't win. Saha thought he was offside - hence why he missed the chance. If he is offside, and the ref calls offside, but saha carries on and puts the ball into the net, he risks getting booked. So if he thinks he's off, he's cautious about shooting. Yet if offside isn't called (like last night), then he gets the blame for missing.

Also agreed with the pen aswell, I thought he was gonna miss it. I was nearly shouting at the TV "give it to rooney" . (that sounds a bit dodgy doesn't it? )

Well done to celtic though, as mjcairney said, you have to put the ball in the net to win. And we just didn't do that. I think we'll get the point we need though (touch wood lol).

No, that's the point I'm making, he didn't miss it, it was saved.

Had he shot wide, skied it over the bar, fluffed his shot, whatever, then he would be classed as having missed it - his shot was net-bound and was saved by Boruc, therefore it's a goalkeeper's save and not a striker's miss, or am I missing something?

Cheers,

Martin.

That's nonsense really, as any footballer (amateur or professional) knows that you play to the whistle. To stop as Saha did is naivety in the extreme. I'll bet Sir Alex had a few choice words for him in the dressing room.

Cheers,

Martin.

Absolutely right! I was at the game (never miss any Celtic home game), and it has to be said that when we are not ahead in the game in terms of goals or dominating play, Celtic fans are quieter (too quiet sometimes). We tend to rely on the players to start doing something, and when they do (like score, or put together some quality passages of play), we get behind them big style!

Fact is all Celtic fans like me would have been nervous in the first half; we couldn't string two passes together and Man U dominated us completely. When that happens (not often) we are much too quiet and need to get behind the team more! But when we came back into it in the second half, the buzz amongst the faithful started and when we scored - it was electric! There's no doubt Benfica were in awe of there surrounds when we beat them at CP a few weeks ago - the atmosphere before, and during the game was brilliant!

We (Celtic fans) are, imo, the best in the world at getting behind their team and driving them on - but sometimes we need a kick up the ar*e before we do so. We've won last 6 CL games at CP (incl one qualifier) since Barca became the first team to beat us there, without losing a single goal. We need fear nobody in the last 16 (as long as we don't get walloped away from home).

Hail Hail.

saying this as a rangers fan. well done to celtic for getting through, good luck for the knock-out stage, wont go as far as supportin you though!! seriously though it really benefits scottish football for any team to do well, to think otherwise is pretty short-sighted imo.

Re: Man Utd Nakad

Forgot to finish message above by saying I thought that, though Giggs had a good game (despite booing by my fellow fans - deserved after his dive for a pen in the first game), the one Man U player that had me worried was Ronaldo! Every time he ran at us with the ball I thought we'd get punished, but his end product (and Rooney and Saha's ineffectiveness) let Man U down. Boy is he fast though!
