Being a Hibs fan through and through I will not say "I told you so" as really deep down the last thing the Scottish game needs is to lose the Edinburgh derby fixture and our greatest rivals. However the attitude of many Hearts fans I have spoken too over the last two years has really made me think twice about showing any sympathy. The wee team comments, docklanders and so on along with the pig ignorant attitude that you were going to win the Champions league and teh Scottish league this year really made the vocal fan base look very silly and basically leave you out in the cold where other clubs are concerned. The arrogance is now starting to backfire as suddenly the heads come up from the sand pit and start to realise that the clubs owner may indeed have the wrong motivation after all.
I am sure that there are genuine Hearts fans who saw this coming a while ago and have felt helpless to do anything, but at the same time the vast majority in my opinion have gone along with the rubbish this man has spouted for the last two years. He said he was going to spend millions on players, have big name managers and would split the old firm every year and win the champions league, well I and every other scottish football fan must be watching a different team than the one who turned up at Easter Road last week and were played into next year never mind off the park. It was the worst performance I have ever seen from a Hearts team, ever! And what happened to all that money the submariner was going to spend?
I would fear for the future of HOMFC as we know it and that has me split in two ways. As I said there are genuine Hearts fans, like those few who stood with us in the dark days of the "Hands off Hibs" era, but I have also witnessed the sheer ignorant self serving attitudes of the Hearts faithful who blame anyone but themselves and make a mockery of the SFA and referees on a regular basis when things go wrong and who say they will be the Chelsea of the SPL. The Paranoia is scary! I really hope that Romanov's comment that there should only be one big team in Edinburgh doesn't come back to bite you guys too hard.
I can see where the problems came from, the club was in serious finacial strife and you had to get rid of the pie man. When this guy turned up saying he was going to spend millions on players and that Hearts would be Scottish champions and the fact he was from the eastern block and appeared minted, you can see why some got carried away. I did fear that he had nailed it last season when you guys shot into a big SPL lead and where playing some good football, but alas the house of card sfell down just as quickly as it had been built, with some unbelievable drama. Maybe Sky should drop Dream Team and follow Hearts exploits, the storylines would seem far fetched if written in a TV script.
I hope things get sorted for you guys, like I say the sweetness of a derby win would be the biggest loss for me. I think it will be painful ahead and maybe for what has been said and done, your club should suffer for a little while to learn it's lesson. Every other club has sold its big money players and tighened the purse strings, hell Hibs had a £2m profit last year but have spent nowt on players and have managed to ride their luck, play their way through. So all the best to the genuine Hearts fans who I do respect, maybe the large majority with the attitude problems are now starting to change for the better now they realise the grass is far from green and hopefully HOMFC can be saved - but not until it learns the lessons i would say IMHO.
The above is made in good humour and respect, I hope it is taken that way.
