On a serious note how do you think the new rules from UEFA about home grown players will effect teams like Arsenal? |
On the first point, who cares? As Arsenal players always get 'picked out' as chief culprits whenever England lose, it tends to dent my enthusiasm for them playing for England. I'm still proud everytime one of our player is picked for his country, but it always comes with a hint of trepidation.
On the second, as someone else pointed out in another thread, because the new ruling is so woolly it won't have much impact. For example, the likes of Senderos and Fabregas will be excluded from it as they came in as youth players rather than as full transfers. Even though it would hit Arsenal hard, frankly, I would rather see the 1980's Italian ruling brought in which meant that no more than four players in any team actually playing in a match could be overseas. This idea of limiting the number of overseas squad players is just a joke. If you have twelve overseas players out of, say 24, they can still
all be regulars at the expense of home grown talent.
Back on topic, if something drastic isn't done soon we
will see a real tail off in quality players coming through for England. With Arsenal now a majority overseas, Liverpool getting close, Man Utd fielding quite a few now, and Chelsea packed with em', that doesn't open many doors to English players to get experience at the top level, or in the CL against the very top foreign stars.
