Dirk Kuyt

What a player he looked on Saturday.

Sure to be a major hit at Anfield.

Re: Derek Carrot

Hmmm... can't say I agree with you there, only 45 minutes worth of him plus all I saw was a player that was eager to try hard. Add to the fact that he was dreadful in the World Cup.

I wasn't looking forward to a trip to Anfield so early in the season, and feared a bit of a stuffing - on the basis of Saturday I don't think Liverpool will be challenging, as we could have easily come away with a point and it would have been a fair result.

Maybe they're just easing into the season as opposed to hitting the ground running?

Re: Derek Carrot

Please forgive my undoubted ignorance, but who is this guy? Do you mean Derek Acorah? Or maybe Jasper Carrot?........ both of whom could seemlessly fit into your defence!

BTW, it would be useful for Jose to know which one of them will be playing against us on 17th September... just so that he can sort out his strikeforce accordingly...

Re: Derek Carrot

Dirk Kuyt I'd imagine....

Rio - I thought the hammers were pretty poor apart from one or two decent attacks. Your 2 centre backs were good, but your right back looks like a liability. Liverpool controlled the game for long spells and had it not been for some poor finishing, could've been a completely different game.

Hmmm, can't say I agree, we pretty much had Liverpool pinned in for the whole of the second half and had a whole lot of possession - in terms of attempts yes Liverpool had more, but I still thought we looked more dangerous, and but for Bowyer's miss we would have walked away with a point.

I didn't think Pantsil had a bad game myself, he likes to bomb on a bit too much maybe but it'll take him a while to bed in regardless.

Probably a good idea........... CFC1, Dirk Kuyt was the curly blonde dutch bloke who kept making useless runs, getting caught in possession, and out of position for attacks which usually led to there breaking up. Looked crap, not sure why anyone wanted him. If he plays like that for Liverpool he'll be my player of the year!

Re: Dirk Kuyt

Yes, overrated in my opinion. He may well prove me wrong, but when against real opposition at the world cup, he dissappointed time and time again. With Crouch and Bellamy firing on all cylinders, Fowler in the ranks too, (Pongol is back there too after his loan spell I believe) Kuyt is the wrong type of striker to have bought. 'Pool already have a target man in the form of Crouch and a striker who is able to make penetrating runs in Bellamy. Personally, I think someone with more pace and power with lots of skill would have been a better buy, Tevez maybe? But Kuyt has dissappointed whenever I've seen him.

Let's see...a Chelski fan, Arsenal fan, West Ham fan...even a Villa fan having a go at the porn-star look-a-likey....yep they must be worried

Look, you can't judge him on 38 minutes*! Although I will say it is promising his first 5 touches involved 3 shots

P.S. Let's leave the World Cup out of it. Everyone disappointed...and that goes for all positions!

P.P.S. Pongolle ain't getting a game...Rafa desperate to ship him and the other Houllier cast-off out

P.P.P.S. Unlike Crouch, he can head the ball...with power

Sorry about the poorly constructed response

*Still did 10 times more in 38min than that waste of space Morientes in 18 months!

Re: Dirk Kuyt

You can't argue with his domestic goal scoring record though... 70+ goals in just over 100 games aint bad...

I think he'll do ok. Hopefully we can play 2 strikers up front the whole time now. But we shall see in time..

But that could be more a reflection of the quality of opposition he was up against?

If he can adapt to the Premiership quickly and under Benitez I think he will, then he will be a dangerous player. But, in my opinion, there were better buys out there

Erm, no! Kuyt has me about as worried as Heskey ever did - and that was never!

Agree about the World cup - another naff tournament full of underachievers.

Crouch can't head! What can he do then!? Apart from score with tap ins against utterly duff defences............

Yes, for some reason Rafa passed up Ashton and then Andy Johnson when he had the chance. But otherwise, it's a tough marketplace...with clubs always looking to cash in

Overkill..."with power"!?!?!?!?! Crouch can head...but you'll never see him power it in like Terry. Sorry about that momentary lapse of self-control

Oh, Overkill...let's see whether Kuyt scores first with direct playing midfielders behind him, or... any one of your strikers with fancy trying-to-spell-their-name-out-with-the-ball before they can score fancy-dans. Again, sorry about that momentary lapse of self-control

Re: Dirk Kuyt

I was pleasantly surprized on Saturday, he's something completely different to any other striker we have or have had in recent years. Having someone positive, direct, big, strong, quick, good in the air & a decent looking powerful shot on him can't be a bad thing.

Just like every other Dutchman at the world cup with the exception of Robben, he looks far better player at club level which is what we bought him for.

Love it! Quite agree on the last one as well. The times I've screamed "just ****** shoot you idiot" at one of our forwards is beyond belief!

Only one on the England team who can!!!

From what I saw on MOTD and heard on the radio a liverpool win was the right result. West Ham played well and gave it a go, not sitting back like other teams at Anfield. If Bowyer had scored etc.....all ifs, buts and maybe's!

West Ham were unlucky againt LFC!!!! ..in the FA Cup final they were given an OG start, a drop by the goalie for number two and then a fluke cross that went in for the third, ...last saturday another fluke miss-hit cross that went in....how much more luck do they want!!!!!!....and they still lost!

Oh...I think Dirk Kuyt looked very good. Time will tell (remember Cisse had a great domestic record too )

Whilst factually right I think you'll find many a neutral argue the point that we were much the better side throughout in the Cup Final, without Gerrard we would have been home and dry, and only a stunning save from Reina in the last minute of extra time stopped us winning it. Besides, only Konchesky's goal was a fluke, we effectively made the other two for ourselves! (Not our fault no Liverpool player reacted when Reina spilled the ball!).

As for Kuyt, he may settle down really well - no disrespect to the Dutch, but their league is not the most competitive around - and he does seem the no-nonsense type, which suits our league a little better. Time will tell.
