Talking Alan Smith Comeback

I am no Man United supporter but I think it is great for the man that he will make his comeback tonight in a reserve game. I have always admired the way he gives his all for whatever team he is playing for. I just think he has a great attitude to the game.

He may get over the physical scars of the injury easier than the mental ones. I just hope most other supporters whatever their allegiance will wish him well as he tries to fully recover.

Can't believe he is back so soon!!

The surgeon's/physio's that work on these guys must be miracle workers. I broke my arm 4 months ago and still can't pick up a cup properly!! Yet these guys are out running about in top level football so soon after horrific injuries. Cisse is due back in Nov too!!

Must have been a halfwit that operated on me.

Good luck to him anyway - I'm sure he'll be afraid to tackle or block shots for a while.

Good luck to him

We mere mortals get the physio once, maybe twice a week. Premiership footballers get daily treatment, and are made sure they're working hard.

And speaking for myself I think I was a little less motivated as a student getting back to school than Smith is as a Prem footballer

I was at the FA Cup game where he broke it and just seeing the look on Van Nistelrooys face was enough to tell me how bad it was...

Good to see players make a comeback, even though I hate Man U I wish him well in getting over it as its all mental challenge now. Hes known for his physical play, lets see if he still shows the same determination that he used to have.
The thing with Cisse was that he broke his just by running, so everytime he ran for a few months after coming back I was cringing. Then I kinda got used to it, then all of a sudden he broke it again just from running!.

Good luck to the lad, although I doubt he'll get lots of 1st team football this season if he's going back to being a striker... not that he'd be the best midfielder next to Carrick and hopefully Hargreaves

I broke my leg skiing a few years ago. Basically my outside ankle bone on my right leg was snapped off and moved around to the front of my leg - a "displacement and rotation" fracture.

This happened in Courcheval, and the doctor at the medical centre told me he knew just the guy to fix it. It turns out I was operated on at a private hospital in Chambery by a chappie who had been surgeon to the French Olympic skiing team.

The bone was repositioned, pinned and clipped, and within 48 hours I was out of bed walking up and down the corridors with the physio. Within 3 weeks I was able to walk reasonably normally, and within 3 months was playing cricket again. However, this caused the metal in my leg to come loose, so I had to have another operation later in the year to remove it.

So, there are some good surgeons out there - I suppose the ones that are doing complicated orthepedic work on a regular basis will be better at it than those that only do the complex stuff every now and then. Stands to reason!

I've haven't been skiing since however...!

Anyway back to he original subject of the post - good to see Alan Smith back. I've never supported any team he's played for, but I've always admired his effort, honesty and will-to-win.
