Owen Hargreaves to Man Utd?

Sky Sports News are reporting that Alex Ferguson has made a "concrete offer" to Bayern Munich for Owen Hargreaves.

Any thoughts?....

Don't think they will let him go unless it is silly money. They have already lost
Ballack.

Can't understand why they would want him after buying Carrick. If it's for the £8m mentioned though would be good business.

As he was the only English player to enhance his reputation at the World Cup, there aren't many teams wouldn't be interested.
Ferguson has to win big this season or else, so why wouldn't he be interested in him?
Many teams could do much worse than have him in their side.

He did state the other night that he has not had the offer from united. But did say that he would like for it to happen.

He's a very different player IMO, I'm not sure how carrick has become labelled as a defensive MF, he's a great passer but nowhere near hargreaves in the tackling department. to my mind they could make a good pairing, both young, both english. he'd be a good signing.

Carrick & Hargreaves would probably be the perfect balance central midfield - it would make a huge difference at Man Utd. Neither are defensive midfielders as such, Hargreaves is all engine covering every blade of grass, Carrick is a playmaker, keeping possession. Much how Alonso & Sissoko works at Liverpool.

It would be a great signing - but in my mind it'd be either Carrick or Hargreaves, not the both of them together (unless you play five across the middle).

There would be a big chance of them getting in each other's way playing in the same side.

They are completely different players? No-one got in Carrick's way at Tottenham. Jenas & Davids are Hargreaves types of players & it worked absolutely fine there.

This transfer as another one that stinks of tapping up to me... Hargreaves came out and said he'd had a "fantastic offer" from United, then Bayern responded by saying they'd not had an offer or anything yet... Now he's definitely going, as he's demanded to leave and Bayern can't afford not to cash in on him.

All the big clubs seem to need to do nowadays is "leak" a story to the press that they're interested in a player, and the player will do the rest, regardless of how the selling club feels.

I believe some of the ground work was covered during Ruud negotiations.

17m is the figure I have heard, based on appearances etc...

So Sissoko, Alonso combined for 15m...

Carrick and Hargreaves combined for 34m

Are you mad? He was cynically singled out and received some terrible physical abuse (GBH actually) from those thugs masquerading as footballers!

haha

love this stuff... about as physical as Reinas hand on Robbens face...
would love to see how Ballack deals with playing Bolton in mid winter... if he thinks we are physical! Lumphard couldn't even hit Zenden properly from point blank when he took a swing, thats right he needs a deflection in order to hit the target!

The whole Hargreaves thing I find interesting.

Before the WC he was hounded by the media and fans. I remember hearing pundits in both TV and print saying they could not believe that someone like him was in the England squad at all. And I heard numerous fans in radio phone-ins calling for him to be left at home and that they could play better themselves.

He then got booed by his own fans during the WC, but then they changed their minds and he was voted the best English player in Germany. He has also become the darling of the tabloids over the last 6 or 8 weeks, and now he is about to sign for Man Utd.

Did I miss something?

Or does the whole debacle show how stupid, fickle and lack of understanding most football fans actually have about the game.

agree mate.... he was always seen as the black sheep off the team. The inclusion that made Eriksson look knowledgeable as he was playing in the German league. I presumed he was picked for the World Cup purely because he could help order meals for the team... but he had a good world cup... but then again Rooney, Gerrard and Ronaldinho all had poor world cups. I think Hargreaves is pretty good, but not 17m good. Nowhere near that amount. If he wasn't English he would be available for about 4m.
When Liverpool were linked with him we got stick from Manc fans about how bad he is etc etc.... one World Cup later and they love him.

true.... but I can't think of a more physical side in the prem, which is why I singled them out.
Blackburn would be second to that, and from what I saw yesterday Sheff Utd would be a close third.

I have no problem with the way Bolton play. They know what their limitations are and play to their strengths - fair enough.

Now Blackburn - they are a different proposition altogether.... they are a bunch of brutes who use footie as a license for legalised violence and IMO are the biggest thugs in the PL.
