2. Man Utd
3. Liverpool
4. Arsenal

The rest pretty much the same as you, apart from Watford, who will go back down in place of Wigan, and Newcastle, who will finish a creditable 15th!

Istanbul mate: May I congratulate you on a thorough and well thought out post re the season ahead. Try as I might, I don't think I could take issue with you on anything!

The fact that you have managed to put your considerable personal bias aside in the order or your top 4 teams, shows that you must at some time have had some redeeming factors, which, unfortunately, have been eroded by brainwashing over the years.

If it wasn't for your disparaging, relentless attack on Francis Lampard, I could probably warm to you......

I have a sneaking suspicion that Middlesboro might go down this year, that is unless the 3 that came up are poor. Anyone agree?

Also can't see anybody but Chelsea winning it. I know you might say, 'what about the Community Shield', but over the long haul of the season I can see them winning it by double figure pts this year.

As for who will be 2nd - its anybody between the other 'big' 3.

I can assure you all that Watford will not do down this season, get down the bookies & lump some cash on it. Decent defence, workman like midfield, 2 blinding wingers & a superb strike force.

Did no-one see Liverpool's reserves beat Chelsea 1st 11 on Sunday?

I got the top four right last season, and in the right order!

But to blow my record:
Leeds to win Championship, and win Premiership season after

There's a few people doubting Portmouth & tipping them for relegation? They finished last season veru strongly, kept all the best players (Taylor, O'Neill, Lua Lua etc), strengthen a bit with the likes of Glen Johnson, Thompson, (Campbell, James to a certain extent) & Benjamin Mwaruwari & still have pots of cash to spend.

I see them buying 2 or 3 big name players & finishing top 8 - it's a very tough place to go when they're on form.

I just think their time has come. You can't just play well for a third of a season and keep getting away with it.
I'd rather they stay up though, as I have a liking for Harry. He seems to spout less bull than most.
A few decent results and Portsmouth may become everyone's "second" team, a bit like Barnsley when they had their year in the sunny climes of the Premiership.

One thing i can see with this whole thread is that everyone is writing the blades off. Guys, as a blades i really do think the we will suprise so people this yr, i mean i dont think we will finish in the top half but i really dont think we will go down. I feel we are a much stronger team that the lights of wigan, watford fulham etc. And watching the blades over the last couple of yrs play liverpool, arsenal i feel we can hold our own with them (not win them but just do enough)
On the other hand these games we have played have been one off matches and i am unsure to whether we can do this week in, week out. Only time will tell!!!!!!

Oh yeah, after defending my team i forgot my prediction, here goes:

Top:

Liverpool
Chelsea
Man Utd

Bottom:

Middlesborough or Reading
Wigan
Watford

Up The Blades!!!

Danny maybe mad but he knows a title winning side when he sees one

Sheff United, IMO, aren't a match for enough teams in the prem, Watford look a far better outfit than them to me.

Oh i think liverpool will run away with it!

But i feel we have a much better youth system than alot of teams and the majority of our younger players, like tonge, jags, bromby will cope very easy in the prem, as i said before only time will tell, but by god does it feel good to be facing great teams again, (Bring on match of the day)

All joking a side I reckon Spurs could finish in the top four. West Ham United can do well this season too, they both play some attractive football.....
But i truly believe Liverpool could fight Chelsea all the way, certainly a much stronger squad than last season.
But then you can never right off Man United or Arsenal.

My opinion on clubs going down are Everton ( It's been a long time coming ) Charlton and Wigan

Tim

People think Chelsea have depth in their squad, OK the do for central defence & midfield but they're going into this season at the moment with:

1 right back - the same one they dropped for half of last season.
1 left back - the same one they wouldn't let anywhere near the pitch last season
2 Strikers - Drogba & Svenchenko - where's the back up if these 2 get injured? They've offloaded Gudjohnsen, Cole & Crespo.

I think it will be beyond them for the next year or two. The top 4 really are on their own level. They can attract the best players and so will maintain their status in the top group. However, of all the others, Spurs IMO are getting closest, but unlike the top 4, I don't think they have the consistency yet to be able to go on a long unbeaten run, that they will need to keep pace.

CFC if rumours are right we have 2 massive signings on the cards this week, both from madrid clubs. Could make a massive diffrence to our squad.
Must agree top 4 are a league of there own but i think we proved last season we are not far behind, top 4 all season up until last game i think. I would of settled to come th at start of last season.

I don't think so!

I know Cudicini had a bad day on Sunday, but you don't think he's good enough back-up for Cech? Mate, I would have no qualms about Carlo being our number 1 keeper!

You are correct in your view that the full back situation isn't great. IMO, these are our only weak areas (relatively speaking). However, I would like to see Wayne Bridge given a run, 'cos I think he's a confidence player, and unfortunately, the manager hasn't shown any in him...... But we need to buy a top right back!

With regard to the striking situation, you can discount Carlton Cole from last seasons list, 'cos he contributed nothing. In the end, he just wasn't good enough unfortunately. Similarly, Eidur was just a bit part player last year and with Joey Cole at last seemingly cementing his place, I don't think Eidur would have featured any more this season. Crespo is a good player, but I don't think our style of play suited him totally. His heart was never in London anyway, so better to let him go.

So, we now have Cheva & Drogba as the only "main" strikers. I think the penny has dropped at last with Mourinho that there's no point having a third and unhappy striker at the club. So, if we pick up an injury, Joey Cole and/or Arjen Robben would fill in & support! No problems.
